No one: 116520 is my Favorite Daytona of All Time

I don’t need to explain how special a Rolex Daytona is, but I do want to tell you why specifically 116520, not any other reference.

  1. Full on metal
I just don’t like the ceramic bezel on a Daytona. 116520‘s stainless steel build makes it more uniform and neat.
  2. In House Movement
Does it matter? Not really, but it does… It’s a feeling of it, that only you know. Rolex is reliable, not the most luxury movement, but you can count on it for decades.
  3. Why not vintage?
I’m clumsy, I don’t wanna bang up a delicate piece. Also 116520 is a reference that belongs to my period. Or should I say I belong to this reference’s era…

I also like how universal Daytona is, this applies to all the references. It’s a sports watch that can go with a suit, you can swim with it. It makes a perfect one watch collection (that’s what we tell ourselves until we keep buying more watches…).

This is strictly my opinion and I’m open to discussion. What’s your favorite Daytona reference? What do you wanna know about a Daytona if you plan on buying one?

 116500 black bezel.

It certainly suffers the middle child syndrome caught between the Zenith and the ceramic. Personally, I like the dial layout of the in house movement better. Something cleaner and unique about running seconds at six instead of nine.

Congrats! But Not for me. Can’t get past the idea of recycling a datejust case (curved sides) and call it a sport watch. The bling to brush ratio bothers me too.
