AD/Boutique Status - My Lucky Day?

Not sure about your home town, but I’m from Hong Kong and this green dial SeaMaster is hard to get… You needa have some spending at the local boutique to get it.

Today I just marched in a random Omega boutique in Paris during my 3 day trip, just to try my luck. Why not? And guess what they offered me?!

It’s listed at €6,000 and I get €1,000 tax refund, making it a total of €5,000 purchase price!

Apart from this, my local AD has given me calls more often than ever before. It’s not a black sub or Daytona, but at least they offered me something.

Is it getting easier to buy watches where you’re from? Let’s discuss!

Congrats!  That green is gorgeous!

·

Nice!

·

That green is 🔥

I am in California, i had a 10k -15k budget for watches this year. In that range, Rolex AD are the only exception where nothing I want is available, I have managed to score 5 watches in past year and blew my budget. I need to seek help to come over my disease of watch collection. Otherwise I will be working till I die.

several options:

  1. sell a few of your existing ones

2. stick fingers in ears and keep on buying.

3. Extend your budget (then see 2. above)

4. Sell kidney - if not already done this (then see 2. above)

5. Chat with like minded people that will convince you that there is no problem :)

Congratulations on your fortuitous purchase! I hope that you get a great deal of enjoyment from it.

I’m not super into the green SMP (I have the black rubber one) but can see the appeal.

I’d love a Rolex for when I graduate in a few years to mark a lot of hard work and effort, however I can’t be sure that I’ll be able to get one even then!

Rolex are so stupid and awesome.

I select options 3 & 5. I need those kidneys for when Patek Phillipe 5740 becomes available. #patekphilippe

Sure it’s your lucky day. You were offered something you wanted. Did you buy it?
To me it would be strange if the development in the world right now didn’t have an effect on both demand and supply on watches. Should be generally easier to obtain a saught after watch.

A fine choice… and you’re right to hold out for the PP.

Great colour, love this Seamaster.

Nothing got me as on top of my finances as watch collecting. Managing your finances is just an exercise in reflecting on what you really love in life and what gives you fleeting satisfaction that doesn't extend beyond 6 months. What worked for me was categorizing my transactions for the past year and prioritizing my spend. I like watches more than eating out, wearing new clothes/shoes, buying new furniture, and taking lessons like chess. So I am maintaining my watch spend and cutting out the rest to save more for retirement. Other people might decide to downsize their house or car. There's no right answer, but there is a wrong answer, and that is to ignore what you are doing with your money.

Crazy beautiful watch. Forest green is my favourite shade of green

·

Here in the states, boutiques are getting very limited supply ATM. I guess the wait time is about a few weeks. The watch looks great on you!

·

Nice. I very nearly went for one of these, but played it safe with blue!

·

This is going to be my next watch and I hope to make the purchase in the next 6 months. Great buy! Can I ask you what your wrist size is?

A few weeks is really short in HK standard… good for you

I’m very insensitive when it comes to colors😂 is forest green the same green on my watch? Anyway, green seems like getting more attention recently

Yes of course I bought it! Can’t miss this one. I feel like this is a good time to start spending at AD’s to get better relationship with them. There’s less flippers flipping now

Sadly the supply for kidneys is way higher than 5740😂 you might need 10

Thank you and oh wow! You have a SMP already before graduating😂 you can never go wrong with a Rolex sports model, something like a black sub if still worth the premium imo.

Let’s just work til we die, that’s our destiny🤣

Yes, I'm not a rich youngster. Just a watch loving middle aged man studying in his spare time to do something he ought to have done many (many) years ago :)

I am fortunate to have the means, but I don’t have the justification. Graduation is a milestone that means something to me and I want to mark it appropriately :)

My wrist is 6 and 3/4 inch. The lug to lug is pretty short, making this 42mm very wearable. Hope to see you rocking the green SMP soon!

Thanks. We have the same wrist size. You’ve given me great perspective as to what it would look like on me. Did you also get the green rubber strap to mix and match?

I only have two (maybe three) left to get (and I know which ones) and two-three left to sell/trade. Hoping that within the next six months those watches will be in the collection and the others out. I've started unsubscribing from all sorts of email watch subscriptions, with the hopes that soon I can just be in chatting about/admiring watches mode, not actively buying.

We will see, but that's the plan...cause, like you, I don't want to work till I die.

You my friend have a better control on what you want in life😇. I am constantly chasing new goals once I achieve previous ones. Watches are markers of those goal achievements. I just need to set them really high now. So no more watches. 😝
When I bought a watch box with 12 slots, first five slots are already taken since I had a watch my dad gave me, a Casio, a Seiko, a Citizen and another quartz watch. Though I love them all, nothing sparked that sense of achievement. With each major goal achieved i started adding a watch that was also an investment piece that could be handed down to both my kids. At least that what I told myself😉. I need another watchbox now.

I might follow your advice of unsubscribing to all watch related channels except this one and simply admire what I have.

You are a gentleman and a scholar😇. I too do not spend on fancy stuff like clothes, cars, clothes, etc. Except we take 4 vacations a year 🏖️. And then there is this watch obsession 🥺. Luckily I got into watch collecting late in my career, I have already set path for retirement if I live that long. House is already small so no downsizing there. Like all other obsessions of mine I hope this one will subside as well. I was into photography, stargazing, mountain biking, road biking to name a few expensive ones.

I will be taking your advice on paying attention on what I am doing with my money. But then there are these beautiful watches😍, I just need to admire them not collect them.

I need therapy or make more money.

·

congrats man!!! enjoy it and wear it in good health....

Thanks, but to be clear, I will still talk on forums with my fellow watch people and likely watch watch relate youtube videos.

What seems to do me in are the plethora of watch related email that comes my way, so I am starting to unsubscribe from like Baltic and RZE and the like. All those wonderful microbrands that interest me.

Unfortunately not, I like how subtle the green is, I don’t wanna destroy that vibe by throwing in a green rubber strap🤣
