I lasted 30 days
It started well. The 1st of January held out so much promise that this year, this year I would be a disciplined watch collector / addict.
I wrote down two personal goals for 2023 and if they came true I would get a grail for each goal. An oath to myself that would add a lot of meaning to any new additions this year.
29 January I was drunk (Sunday night don't judge). A bit too much whiskey. Before going to bed I checked eBay. What could possibly go wrong. Unfortunately, the week before I had been gorging on zodiac video watch reviews. And there she was. A used Zodiac skin diver LE with that awesome vintage vibe and stainless steel bezel at a price that said BUY ME NOW. So I DID and broke my oath.
I got the watch today and it is exactly what I expected. The sizing is great for my wrist and it wears nice and thin. The steel bezel looks cool and adds some vintage character. The dial is simple with good symmetry and negative space. And those hands are very cool. I took off the bracelet and am wearing it on a delugs strap.
The cons are as expected... Terrible lume and a bit of play on the bezel.
In the used market the watch is great value. This will be part of my GADA rotation along with the Sinn 556 and the Sarb017.
So after this small lapse I publicly reaffirm my oath...2 goals for 2 grails.
A nice Zodiac would tempt anyone.
I can see how that watch would hit a weak spot.
I'm on a NWA fast until 2024 after buying a Seiko SRPH77K1 Save the Ocean the first week of the year. Wasn't even drunk.
It's OK, cuz as of right now, I'm really rather content*.

Fasting till 2024... Good luck. My wrist could not last that long without a new watch.
P.s. my wife doesn't know about the zodiac. All my watches look the same to her 🙏🏼

I bought it wanting a very vintage looking watch with great brand history that benefits from modern movements and case. So I don't mind that the lume is poor. I just have to remember to take off the watch before it gets dark 🙂

I wanted it for the same reasons except I have a $200 steeldive that has insane lume. Literally insane all night maybe better then seiko lume. So I absolutely cannot forgive a Swiss diver for poor lume. I’d except mediocre .
