Finally gave up on the manual wind Komandirskie. Janky is one thing, but just not being able to wind it most days is too much. Ordered up an automatic. Similar aesthetic, and I like the 24-hour thing. Too bad, because I wouldn’t have minded having both, but if it won’t even wind there’s really no point. Even my Soviet-era one winds every time and runs like a champ.

That would’ve driven me nuts. You’re braver than I am to pick up a second piece from a brand that has completely failed you.

Given the reputation these have for being crunchy but reliable over the long-term, I don’t feel particularly brave or foolish. And again, the one I have that’s at least 32 years old runs well. Of course, history will judge, and I’ll come clean before my WC brethren and sistren if this move results in another failure.

Let us know how you get on with that 24 hour display. An old fogey like me might have trouble adapting to that.

Will do. I prefer 24h time, but I’m sure having it on wrist will still require some getting used to. This would have been super handy 30 years ago when I was writing the 24h time 479 times per day. Less useful now, but still a complication (if I can call it that) that I’ve always wanted.
