How's your experience been with them? I'm assuming it's an eBay refurbished piece.
Correct. Refurbs from eBay. I’ve never bought one any other way.
They’re fun, as long as your expectations are appropriately calibrated. I love the looks. They definitely need a polish on arrival. They all work. I couldn’t comment on accuracy. The bands are sometimes pretty skeevy. The ones I buy are $25 max (that’s the point of them, for me). They take up to a month to arrive.

I could swear some for sale had serious buffing wheel burnishing, or maybe crudely replated brass cases?
You do it just as I would. I can supply a better band, and the shipping needs to be less than half the item cost so I can wait.
At least on desktop you can edit the original post to later tags. Please add #Dornbluth so we can work toward that badge. Still no HMT badge available!

I suspect you’re looking at the finishing more closely than I am, and you may indeed be right about the replating. I don’t look to far past the dials. Taken together, they look like to me like the old bowl of gross but colorful hard candies that my Grandma used to keep on her coffee table
As for the Formex tag, it’s stuck fast. I’ll refuse the badge unless I come by it honestly. Who needs that kind of scandal??
I've noticed that many of the HMT watches listed on eBay come with original but old or refurbished movements, although the dials are often repainted and the finishing can be lackluster. When I first started collecting, I accidentally bought a watch with a repainted dial and learned my lesson -- the original dial with factory finish is much better. Also, quality control can be a big issue with some of these "Mumbai Specials" or franken watches on eBay, especially given the low price point. It's important to do your research and be aware of what you're buying to avoid disappointment.

This looks cool! I am digging the red dial
