Internal rotating bezel.

Hi Crunchers,

It has started to become an obsession that quirky feature of internal rotating bezel. It is such a fun and useful feature. You can use it as a second time zone, as a countdown timer, as a stopwatch, and yeah, also as something useful for divers as it seems. I am not a diver, and I try to avoid even to go o the swimming pool this that feature is not for me (if my watch is at 100 meters under the water is because either I am drown dead, or I dropped the watch). Internal rotating bezel are much more elegant than traditional rotating dive/gmt bezels (IMHO).

My favorite one is my holy grail watch, the JLC Polaris (no date), but it belongs to another league than mine.

Next in price, I dig the Longines legend diver. Beautiful and classy, but still out of my budget. Next, as much as I like the Seiko Alpinist, it bugs me the second crown at 4 o'clock, and even if the price is affordable, it will raise serious conversations with my wife. Then.... What's left? Nothing else than the Timex Waterbury Dive 41 mm. To my eyes, it has all the class of the previous ones, nice design, two crowns symmetrically placed, enough water resistance for when it rains, and a price tag ridiculously cheap. It's the only quartz of the bunch and has mineral glass. But it tikes so many boxes that it will become my next acquisiton.

What do ou think about internal rotating bezels? Do you find them useful or just a fidget/party trick?

It looks awesome indeed! (But don't dare to mess with the JLC! 😠 )

Really dislike them myself -

I've never used a rotating bezel for anything practical, but I like them because they protect the crystal - an inner rotating bezel is the antithesis of that, necessitating a bigger more vulnerable crystal.

Do quite like the look of the Longines and Chris Ward, but aesthetics aren't a priority for me.

I have a mild obsession with the Bamford London GMT. It is too big for me. But it definitely lives somewhere in a corner of my brain.

I have an original A-15 which, oddly, I bought in Japan years ago. Wonderful and very useful design. I'll post photos later.

Internal bezel is cool. Sometimes my OCD kicks in when the markers don’t align perfectly as I’m screwing the crown back in though.

Man, the BYOP really tickled me! Really nice watch. It seems that it wears very well too. They don't sell it in Europe though. That's a drag.

·

They are not really useful and more of a party trick. The one on my SARB017 can be used as a compass, but if you have to it means that you are over your head in bigger problems.

The one on my Bulova Accutron II is just for show really. No on in full possession of their senses will use this bezel to time a dive.

The compressor style case that usually goes with the internal bezel is attractive. I guess the Alpinist is a rare example that isn't in a compressor case. Helson makes a perfectly acceptable Longines Legend substitute at a significantly lower price point. I own one of these myself and i love it.

I do like a Super Compressor "style" watch and I've had quite a few over the years. I don't think Baltic has been mentioned yet, Christopher Ward make a nice actual Super Compressor and I'd second the Dan Henry suggestion above. My current three are a non-date Legend Diver, Baltic and a 1968 Ancre Super Compressor.
