Clint Eastwood's Rootbeer GMT Master II

My Grandparents went halves with me in my first good watch for my thirtieth birthday (a Hamilton Ventura), and I was really just getting into watches in a big way when my Grandfather became ill and eventually passed away a few months later.

He'd always reminded my Mum and I of Clint Eastwood, and one of the ways I got through that period was watching about a hundred of Clint's films.

Having been developing an eye for watch spotting, I noticed this GMT (pictured above in "In The Line Of Fire") coming up a few times, and it stood out particularly because the Jubilee reminded me of a very early memory of standing next to my Grandfather at the bank at the age of about five and being mesmerized by the jangly metal bracelet on his own watch.

It got stuck in my head.

During this time my brother and I bought our grandparents house so that Nan could move into aged care, and on the day my Grandfather actually passed in hospital, three things happened:

I posted the only fan letter I've ever written, to Clint Eastwood.

I signed my new return postage address (my Grandfather's old address) for the first time.

And as the Rootbeer GMT had quickly become my grail watch owing to this new significance, I bought the best quality homage I could afford - a Steinhart.

Two years in and I still have my Steinhart, Clint is still a national treasure, and I still think of my Grandfather whenever I check my wrist.

Thx for sharing your deeply personal story, the pain that you feel from the passing of your grandfather will get better over the years, the beautiful memories are forever.

My own older brother passed away from natural causes at the young age of 58, he was my best friend fittingly also the only family member present when doctors in ICU could not save him one frigid February morning almost 15 years ago, not a day passes when some event, something will bring back memories of our lives together. When I was still an aging bachelor, he and his wife would invite me to see certain movies with them, very often it would be films that starred Clint Eastwood! ❤️

Sorry for your loss. My father passed away this last summer. The past year was pretty bad, so it was honestly a blessing.

Clint has always been my favorite actor. Your grandfather must've been very cool.

Great movie too. Malkovich was amazing.

It was the same with my grandad. I was surprised by how much that helped in the end.

He was very cool. I always tell people he was like if you put Peter Cushing's head on Clint Eastwood 😁. Trust me, that's a perfect description of him.

So, both cool and sinister. 😎

Loved Cushing in the old Hammer studios Dracula movies.

Pressed =/= Impressed. I personally love it though. My other grail is the Explorer 114270 which also has the pressed clasp.

My grandfather passed away a few years ago. He always wore a gold color timex with the metal springy strap. He told me “you should always wear a watch. It doesn’t have to be expensive but a man should always know what time it is.” It still hurts that he’s gone but I’ve learned to live with the pain.
