A Slight Disappointment

We visited the Kalamazoo Air Zoo this past weekend. Lots of neat planes and space stuff. More information than I could absorb in an afternoon. I was a bit disappointed though, they have display upon display of everything even remotely related to flying. Yet, this is all I saw pertaining to time pieces. I think it’s 2 pocket watchers and a stopwatch. There’s 2 sentences about old fighter pilots synchronizing their watches before flights.

I get it’s not exactly a watch museum but I’ve always thought watches played a crucial role in early flights. Still a pretty fun place to see.

I agree, watches deserve more than a mere 2 senteces. Two paragraphs, at least.

They had an entire living room, in 1960s decor with a console tv playing the moon landing. Motorcycles that had some relative association to aerospace. Tons of old fighter planes. It was all pretty cool.

I just would have liked a little more on watches. A couple proper watches. Maybe an explanation of why pilots synchronized their watches? With all the hype over the MoonSwatch, they have a huge exhibition of the Apollo missions. Nothing on why an astronaut needs a watch? That just seems like a missed opportunity.
