Union Glashütte 1893

I have kind of fallen I love with this watch online. It is just under $3k USD.

Does anyone know much about or have a Union Glashütte watch? I know they now fall under the Swatch Group, but I have only heard stuff about their vintage models. While almost all that I have heard about the vintage pieces is great, I am curious how their current models and production are?

Or does anyone have suggestions on similar looking watches with great production and materials for less money?

It comes down to design, IMHO. Many of these watches from manufacturers in Glasshütte share a similar austere design. Great if you like function over form, as these watches are conservatively styled, and the effort shows in the details. Movements are in-house, but were originally based on ETA movements.

The only thing I could say against it, and why I don't own one, is that there is a lot of competition, even in Glasshütte itself, in that price category.

If you want to save money and don't mind a standard movement, you may want to look at Pforzheim. Brands like Aristo, Circula, Stowa and a few others are located there. Hanhart may also be an option.
