Two in the Roll, One on the Wrist - Episode II - Spain

Second episode in this series of posts. I enjoy thinking of the watches I’m going to bring at a particular long trip, and the functions each watch will accomplish. I literally spend more time thinking of the watches I’ll be carrying than of my outfits.

This new trip next week takes me again back to Spain, but in a very different set of circumstances. On my last episode I traveled for pleasure and to see family and friends and for a wedding, this time I’m in my home country again for work. I’m attending a 3-day conference and trade show, I do so about once a year. Last year I traveled with a very conservative mix of watches, so I decided to spice up things a bit this year.

The Seiko PADI Turtle will be my travel watch. No need to change time zones this time, just a robust partner with good lume that can take two trains, a flight, another two trains and a taxi ride.

Doing business in Spain means socialising in more casual environments, and this watch will be on duty during the odd casual dinner and beer before bed.

The PRX will be mostly in duty at the trade show floor. Very convenient that blue is my company’s corporate color. This watch helps me be myself while feeling confident at it, and works with the semi-formal attire I’ll be wearing during work hours through the week.

Given that I’ll take a detour to visit my family again, I’ll be probably wearing it during my lazy Saturday at my parent’s and when meeting friends for dinner.

The Straton Competition Driver is a left field option. I never travel with it as it is a heavy, chunky automatic chronograph that can be out of depth in many settings. But I’ll give it a go this time and see how it lands.

It will probably see some trade show duty and will be worn out for dinner when the outfit just doesn’t call for the Seiko and its colorful NATO strap. I think it will look good when my sleeves are up while assembling/disassembling our booth and while taking care of business. There’s a specific activity on Thursday as well, in which the chronograph complication might be useful.

That’s all for now. I’m excited of bringing in a bit more color and fun this year, let’s see how it turns out!
