The new Conquest

Caveat: it's only my opinion and I'm biased since I have the predecessor to the new Conquest.

I think the new Spirit Zulu Time, Spirit Flyback and the Hydroconquest GMT are really stunning watches. Especially the Spirit Zulu. Man, do I want one. Great color and strap combinations.

But the Conquest line? Isn't it ... bland? The hands, the dial, the case just doesn't speak to me. It lacks the presence of the older model. Sure it's well built with no obvious flaws. It's this 'what were they thinking' moment.

Why not refine what they had?

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what went wrong and I don't think its just one design element but rather the overall aesthetics. Nothing really stands out.

While I agree that I liked the sport/GADA vibe of the previous model, I think this leans more toward a dress watch. I have a 1973 Conquest that I got which is a bit similar. One angle they might have been attempting is to rekindle this heritage.

My guess is that Longines wanted the Conquest to be more distinct from the Hydroconquest, and be a "safer" style.

Most people who buy watches don't buy multiple watches at similar prices. Generally people buy one watch, or they buy a cheap watch for work and a "nice" watch for everything else. The new Conquest is more suited to going from the beach on vacation, to a nice evening out, to the boardroom, than the older model was.

I like the new conquest tbh. It looks very refined. Like an alternative to the Explorer or AT

I'm loving the zulu time and the hydroconquest gmt

I don't like the new conquest though, I can't put my finger on why but it's not doing anything for me,

The zulu time has been on my radar though, love the green and black

I think it is rather elegant, which really is the real calling card and heritage of Longines. The dots at the ends of the indices is a very 1950's touch, the dial is beautifully balanced - give me this over a Rolex OP any day of the week. The bezel could do with something to elevate it perhaps, it's a little slab like at the moment.

Personally this is more of a only luxury watch. If you are only gonna have this (and maybe a cheap beater) then you want something safe and versatile. It reminds me of the tissot gentleman.

I could see pre watch nerd me wanting this. As is, I could never settle for one watch so I have no need for this style (though it could make a nice dress watch)

I really really like the new conquest as a GADA watch. I prefer without the arabics. Perfect alternative for a lower cost OP or aqua terra. But being a GADA watch, it's a bit boring 😂

I think for me the hands are just too thin and the dials too big. If (when?) They release a smaller size I think the proportions will work better.

Reading your text makes me believe that you like watches that are busier. The Spirit GMT is a busy watch.

The Spirit GMT is a gorgeous watch that I have been wanting to buy in blue since it came out. However, the 42mm is too big for me. I was excited when they recently announced the 39mm since this is my preferred size. I was looking at pictures and photos of the 39mm and there was something that I did not like and I could not put my finger on it but eventually I did. The Spirit GMT has numbers on the dial, another set of numbers on the bezel, the polish ring on the dial and the accented second hand. The 39mm is a shrunk down version of the 42mm and all those numbers started to be too much in the space that a 39mm occupies. I then realize that I am a person that like simpler dials which was a revelation for me. I purchased a Tudor BB Pro (which is a GMT watch) the next day.

So, the watch above to me looks fantastic. I have not seen it yet but I hope the indices are polished to give a glitter once in a while and hopefully the blue dial is a sunburst dial same as the Spirit. It looks very much like the Rolex OP but it has a date which is located at the place where I like it to be.

What do you think ? Do you prefer watches that are busier ?

Do I like busier watches? It depends, I would say. If it works with the rest of the watch I don't mind clean dials. I think Tissot did great work with the PRX line.
