My First Automatic Watch: Orient Mako v2 Mod
We all have that watch that began this tedious journey called watch collecting. This is the watch that began it all for me. While stuck inside due to COVID, I found myself with more free time than I was comfortable with. Loving automobiles, I binged watched YouTube videos until I completely viewed the entire catalogues of my favorite hosts (Jay Leno’s Garage, Consumer Reports, The Straight Pipes, etc.). I decided that I needed to find another hobby and quickly discovered a few watch channels that I am addicted too now (Just One More Watch, Peter Kotsa, WatchChris, & Teddy Baldassarre). These past two years and been informative and mistakes have been made. But every time I wear this watch, it takes me back to the beginning and I fall in love with watches all over again. And thanks to Marc from www.longislandwatch.com, I was able to mod this beauty with a new bracelet, bezel + insert, and sapphire glass. It’s the perfect beater watch for me. And yes, I know this watch looks like Seiko 5’s new GMT releases. I still think my watch is better but will be purchasing the Seiko in a different color variant in the future.

I was more less on the same boat as you. I had Covid Labor Day of last year found my self looking at watches. I always had at least two watches and wanted something nicer. so I went on you tube and down the rabbit hole I went! I went with a Orient Titanium and from there I kept going. I have right now a very tight collection of 12 watches I wear on rotation. 1 beater, 2 basic travel and 3 fun watches plus a gift watch that was given to me. So total up to almost 20! I already out love and given alway a few so far. Now if theres ever a day will I down size it? yes maybe? Its gonna be very hard. And imagine if I ever hit the Lotto... watch out Rolex and Omega here I come!
