Crunchy in Vancouver - Day 1

Headed up to Vancouver today to celebrate my parents 75th birthday. Though it was a short hop up the west coast of North America, it felt long. I’m recording this as much for your entertainment as it is for my sanity.

Beyond the birdsafe glass at SFO was our little puddle jumper, not much bigger than the surrounding vehicles.

Now that is a proper plane.

I sat next to my daughter on the flight and she was great until she decided that the food she had needed to come back up…twice.

Image

Reflections from her shirt brightened the mood, before vomit-pocalyse.

She slept with her head on my lap for the rest of the flight, while my noise cancelling headphones couldn’t block out the noises and smells from 2 row back, the bathrooms. Alas, the flight was almost over and I dreamed about the sweet sweet taste of maple syrup and poutine…maybe at the same time.

Somewhere out there was salvation.

Finally got to our Airbnb only to be greeted by cleaners at the house. But why would there be cleaners still at the house when I was checking in? Oh, the power is out so they couldn’t clean or maintain the house before we showed up. Broken toilets? Check. Missing TVs? Yup. Ant infestation? Uh huh. Unmaintained pool? You guess it. So yeah, between being the intermediary of my family’s gripes and the property management company, I chalked this day up as an L.

Vancouver at dusk. Ok, I see you.

Until tomorrow. Maintenance people are supposed to show up while we’re out exploring. Who knows what hijinks we have in store.

I’ve always wanted to take the ferry from Seattle to Vancouver for a few days, look amazing.

Taking the car ferry to Victoria later this week. Should be an experience.

Oh dam! Trip sounds rough so far

It’s like busiest I’ve ever seen in the city right now. Kitsilano is lovely, go have a picnic there

Air bnb often sucks I’ve found. We’re in PDX right now and went a hotel to be on the safe side

We’re at Kits right now actually. Maintenance people have been at the house since this morning.

If you’d like a quieter spot, just down the road is a small grassy hill called

Margaret Piggot park. One of our fave spots. We live over at 6th and trafalgar so it’s close by.

And there is blackberries along the fence on the ocean side 👍 Park 1 block inside on 1st or Stephens for free and easy parking. Bring blanket, fancy coffees or a few beers to have while looking at the view. Tree Swing for you kids as well 👍

Kids, in-laws, planes, vomit, house cleaners, broken toilets and watches. Perfect start to a great adventure. Be safe and smile.

I’ll be honest, I never realised you guys spell it like that too! I guess the same applies to colour, honour etc?
