Finally!! I got my GMT build finished馃榿

This has been such a process... but a very interesting and rewarding one.

But I know your probably wondering why this does not have a GMT bezel. I wanted a GMT but NEEDED a dive bezel as I use it EVERYDAY at work as well as at home for cooking. And I wanted it to be able to be an everyday watch or a #gadawatch for me. Which is where the idea for this came together.

Took about 3 weeks for all the parts to get here of course just for the movement to come without the dial washer to hold the gmt hand in place. I started the refund process and while I was waiting for the decision I started looking on eBay. I ended up just ordering an assorted lot of dial washers from eBay for $4. Thankfully one of them did work (after trying like 4 different sizes smh). Took almost 2 hours馃檮

Ironically enough they accepted the return request the day after I bought the washer. But at the end of the day, it鈥檚 done now and I happy with the results. I鈥檓 so glad they came on my day off too because who knows when I would鈥檝e had time to do it after today as I work all weekend. But I鈥檓 so happy and proud with how it turned out!馃榿 What do you guys think of my first GMT?

Congrats. Looks great. With the 24 hours marks on the dial, a regular 60 min bezel works fine. I feel your pain with watch parts. I鈥檝e had some not so great experiences buying them on AliExpress that didn鈥檛 fit or were defective. You just have to write it off and try again. Getting a refund is hopeless.

Thanks man! I really appreciate it. And yeah I was ready to just write it off and buy another one on eBay but thankfully I found the washer instead though.

Looks great . I have the same project but with the blue dial.

Just don鈥檛 have the time to get it done. I鈥檝e opted to put a 12 hour bezel on ( from the Spectre Seamaster 300) as 24 hour scale is already on the dial.

Yea I鈥檓 so glad my parts came on my day off because otherwise I would鈥檝e been able to get it done for atleast a week.

Nice one Anthony looks great 馃憣I am currently collecting all the bits and bobs needed for my first build.

Thanks Marc. You have a great day as well. Can鈥檛 wait to see how your build comes out

Awesome! Where did you get that dial? The only dials with 24hr tracks I see are Grand Seiko style GMT dials (e.g. https://luciusatelier.com/products/grand-seiko-gmt-dial-vintage-enamel-biege-for-nh34).

I'm also thinking of building a GMT and now I'm worried about that washer. I'd ask you to explain how it works to me but I can just find some info online. :)

And the washer was an annoying process for me because the had to try a whole bunch of different sizes.. but it just goes on the post the hands go on(I don鈥檛 know the actual term for it馃し馃従鈥嶁檪锔忦煒) but it just goes on before the dial. And from the research I did on the washer it鈥檚 meant to apply slight pressure on the dial to hold the gmt hand in place. I read a lot of post on Reddit that saying that you could do without it but that was not the case for me鈥 the gmt hand would fall to 6 o clock every time it passed 12鈥 but once I put the right washer on it stayed it place. But as long as the movement comes with the correct washer it is a fairly simple and straightforward process. You just put it on before the dial and then just assemble the watch as usual. I did have to use tweezers to set the gmt hand because my hand set tool would not press it down far enough(the hole was not wide enough). But still a fairly straightforward process. Sorry if this is too long lol.. but good luck with your build! And make sure you post it! Can鈥檛 wait to see it馃

Here is also another style I considered with a 24 hr track

Thank you so much for that write-up!!! Definitely not too long, I can't complain about more details! That is definitely helpful. I will be sure to post the build if I do end up making it!
