Anybody thought about buying a watch for the intended use of modding it?

I am looking at some prices on Ali express, and seeing some decent prices on watches that appear to have "good bones." By that, I mean that if you look at the case, the movement, the glass, the various parts that make up a wristwatch, that one might be able to make a pretty decent watch. There is one company selling a sapphire sandwich watch with an ST 2130 movement with a dial that most commenters refer to as a calatrava homage. That watch is currently $113.00 shipped to the states. The watch itself is pretty decent, and you can see it in my gallery if you wish.

However, I am consumed with the urge to buy another for the express purpose of doing watch-i-cide. The specs on the watch are such that I can not image how I could get those pieces for less if I bought them separate as most watch mods are.

I would like to create my own dial and hands combination. Its DIY except, more half the watch is already there. Please someone, anyone, talk me out of it!

I sure have! I’ve never modded either, so it was a dubious idea. Wanted to get a checkerboard Seiko and paint little chess pieces on the dial. Maybe not a true mod anyway?

Yup

Profile pick bottom left bronze and green dial is from a diy kit and I bought out side of the kit the date wheel dial and hands

Been there, modding is a itch that never goes away. When you got an idea you gotta scratch it off.

with the thought that I might mod them and so far I have removed 2 face plates and painted one. Its very gratifying when it works.

Of course, sometimes things end up looking a bit off, so...
