The Beatles and Their Watches – Part VI: Sir Paul’s Casio

This is the sixth installment of “The Beatles and Their Watches”.  We have previously looked at Patek Philippe, Omega, Bulgari, Hamilton, Bueche Girod, Jostens, Cartier, Breitling, and Accurist.

In this installment we look at Casio.  Specifically we look at the Casio WQV3-1BNDL a far cry, we suggest, from the Patek Philippe Aquanaut that Sir Paul McCartney has been wearing now for close to a decade.  Some time before that in the early 2000s, Paul, still reeling from the death of his beloved wife, Linda, showed up with a much younger woman named Heather Mills.  Ms. Mills, wanting to bring her man into the 21st century in some sense of style, bought him the aforementioned Casio which contained a wrist camera.

The wrist camera contained a 25,344-pixel colour CMOS sensor which made it possible to capture up to 80 full digital images that could then be transferred to a computer via infrared technology.  On the wrist camera, the image was displayed in monochrome pixels, but the images would appear in colour on a computer.

(Paul obvious not too happy about his Casio in this photo)

Sir Paul’s particular model came with a black rubber strap and really did represent the latest in technology when he first popped up with it in 2001.  In fact, the Casio WQV3 featured directly and indirectly on two McCartney solo albums.  McCartney used it to take the cover photo for 2001’s Driving Rain album cover which features this self portrait:

The memory capacity of the wrist camera also was referenced when he used the Casio’s warning message as the title for his 2007 solo album Memory Almost Full.

So there you have it, a Casio for a knight of Her Majesty’s Realm (as it then was).  If you would like to be just like the former Beatle, you can look for the watch online and see if angry wives are trying to ditch their hubby’s hard earned trophies:

There’s nothing you can buy that can’t be bought.

Good God where have you been. I’m a keen Beatles fan and loved the era where they wore Cartiers.
