Sam's Watch Review (Casio A158W)

How I Got It

There is a funny story on how I ended up with this small guy here! So few years back during Covid I made the decision to be an Apple Watch user ๐Ÿ˜Ž. However last year my younger sister keeps mentioning how she wanted an Apple Watch so bad for her birthday but I'm not in a comfortable position to buy a new one for her unfortunately. So I ended up gifting mine to her. Sadly, I got so comfortable with the watch and it kinda made me a little bit sad that I'm letting it go (even to my own sister, yea I was in love with that smartwatch). So my sister seeing me being kinda sad, said she would trade her Casio A158W so that I have something to wear and she wouldn't feel that bad of me losing my Apple Watch. Well, we laughed so bad at the situation having a great time talking about how the Casio is basically able to be traded for an Apple Watch just like that which is impossible to see anywhere else in the whole world ๐Ÿ˜‚. I have been keeping the Casio since then as a crazy memorable moment that I won't ever forget.

Build Materials & Appearance

The watch is a metal watch with chrome painted resin case, metal bracelet which is actually surprisingly comfortable and easy to resize, and stainless steel caseback with acrylic covering the dial. It just stated 'Water Resist' on the watch without any depth measurements which I'm going to assume as 30m only. But the watch still works fine when I wear it to swim which is great.

Pros & Cons Starting with Cons then Pros

I dislike the 'acrylic glass' there as it scratches so easily but I can understand that probably also helps with lowering the price. The watch also have a very old and bad lighting that when we press the light button in the dark we still can't read the time ๐Ÿคฃ. Buttons are also quite difficult to press as it is too small for me at least.

On the other hand, the metal bracelet is super comfortable which I honestly thought it would be very bad cause it's a cheap metal strap with folded links. For me, the bracelet really lifts up the look of the watch making it so much better looking in my opinion. The battery life is crazy as it is now almost a decade and it is still running well! The quartz movement is superb as well. Being the oldest watch I own in my collection now, this A158W is the most accurate watch as it only loses 2 seconds after 4 months after I reset the time! How crazy is that?

Summary

All in all, I'm not wearing it as much but I keep it more as a token to remember a beautiful moment with my sister that brings one of the funniest story in my life. Even though the watch didn't get as much wrist time as the rest of my other watches, it is however one of the most important piece for me which I will forever cherish. I don't recommend people to get the watch though as I have another model with the same exact design that I believe brings more value compared to this one.
