One of my most exciting acquisitions!

I blame YouTube for this!

To be honest, I don't need a watch. My environment is filled with time telling devices which makes owning a watch irrelevant, at least to me. But everyone knows we don't buy watches for time telling anymore do we.

I have had a few watches, affordable ones which I'm happily wearing in my small collection. I don't need more watches in my life, practically speaking. Then I started watching more YouTube videos on watches. Especially bronze watches.

After being so obsessed on these watches, I started to scour for a used one with hopefully a cheap and reasonable price just so I could get my hands on. That's exactly what happened.

I found this watch selling for 65% off retail cause it's a used piece. But it is surprisingly in a very good condition!

The guy selling also kind enough to giveaway 4 more 3rd party straps just in case I wanna have some fun with it. Not only that, this is actually a 2000 limited edition release. The other normal Kamasu Mako from Orient is priced way higher than this while all being in the same condition.

Because of that, I decided to not waste anymore precious time and immediately get my hands on it. When it arrived, it just exceeded all my expectations. I'm very happy with it and I'm gonna enjoy it a lot.

I love the deep red of the dial! How does this watch wear compared to your 5KX? How do you choose which one to wear?

This is GORGEOUS. Now you’ve got me looking for one….thanks 🤣

That's a good question Drex!

My 5KX was from the very first are meant to be my everyday watch. It's the one watch I can count on no matter the occasions. It might look pretty for a watch enthusiasts and a Seiko lover. But to an average person it looks completely like a normal watch. The stainless steel everywhere look is just to 'normal' looking to others.

That's where the Kamasu comes in. I wouldn't say it's a dress watch for me. However it could very well be worn on a more than average occasions like family gatherings, dinners, outing with friends, etc. It just looks like it fits well on those events.

Comparing the 2 while ignoring what I intended to use them for however is very different. I believe the Kamasu is still built with stainless steel and just coated or plated for the bronze look? But since it came with a leather straps it is much lighter than the 5KX. Quality control on both is pretty much identical. I can see a small spek of dust in my 5KX dial as well as under the glass for the Kamasu.

Speaking of glass, Kamasu got sapphire crystal while the 5KX is hardlex which is basically mineral crystal. But since it's not going to matter most to me, both are fine.

The bezel action! Both sounds 'clicky' for sure. But the Kamasu spins so easily without much effort. The 5KX got a little bit of tension to twist it (probably gonna feel more premium compared to Kamasu), but to be honest I don't like both feelings 😂. That Addiesdive Willard homage next to them sounds and feels 10x better than the 2. You should get one from Aliexpress and try em seriously.

Movement inside while being manufactured differently, I believe they are just very similar so no complaints. The bracelet on the 5KX could be better though, not the best in the world. The leather straps for the Kamasu however is 🤌🏻. But! Even with that said I still prefer having a bracelet. That's just me I prefer bracelets 😂.

All in all, if you were to buy or choose 1 only then you should ask yourself what do you intend to use them for. I know there are many other options but we're humans. I understand our preferences for each watch type/style are very much subjective. But that's how I differentiate mine.

Price is another factor that I don't really been pressured on fortunately. I got my 5KX for almost retail price but that money I spent on getting it wasn't even money I saved. I just happen to have that money. The Kamasu is much more expensive in retail but I got it way cheaper than my 5KX so again, not an issue.

Enjoy another 2 - 3 minutes of reading my response. 😂

Hahaha I love the well thought-out and explained response! I’ve had both a 5KX, a Ray II, and a steeldive Willard homage so I definitely hear you on the bezel action of both the seiko and orient watches vs one of the Ali express watches. Honestly the value for money is ridicilulous!

Anyway, enjoy your beautiful watch!

Being related with Seiko, they still managed to retain their identity. 🥂

I couldn’t agree more! That is so hard to do with any industry.

That colour combo is really nice, don't think I've seen that before.
