Blue, black, blackish-blue?

Looking to add a nice blue dial watch to collection, and was digging this Oris ProPilot on their website - clean face, nice blue color, and like that the bezel had some detail and not just smooth.

I was nearly ready to pull the trigger online! At this price though, couldn’t justify it sight unseen and hate the hassle of online returns… Closest Oris dealer was 3hrs away and couldn’t check it out in person anytime soon though, so kept the online search going.

Looked for it on usual places - Chrono, eBay, etc. and tried Bob’s Watches, since I’ve seen great Oris deals there before, and did see a great deal but looked like an entirely different watch (obvious bracelet/strap diff aside)! This looked almost black in the picture, despite the description still saying blue. Didn’t make sense, couldn’t actually be the same watch…

I happened to be near Bob’s in Southern Ca for a work trip this week, and luckily was able to see it in person and glad I did…

It was much closer to the Bob’s picture and almost a deep purple hue, definitely not the vibrant blue on the Oris website! Feels like false advertising on the Oris site the difference was so striking. Definitely not the cool bright blue.

What do you guys think? Which online posting would you have believed?

Anyone else have an example about a watch you’re in love with online being totally different in person?

I always vote blue. I swear I’m not biased 😉

My SNXS77 changes drastically in perceived dial color based upon ambient light, from blue to almost black. I'm not surprised.

Be careful shopping at Jomashop, they sometimes exaggerate dial color at their site. At least that's what I've found. Example, SNK366:

You did the right thing by investigating. I've had to do the same thing.

A poll would have been a good way to start it, next time ha

That’s a good one! Online picture looks almost sunburst yellow, not yellow gold. Interesting 🤔
