Thanks to everyone’s responses to my last post

Actually I’m still 14 in a country with not the best economy. I can’t justify spending more then 1500 which is 6000 of the local currency on a luxury timepiece. 6000 is equivalent to the average monthly salary.

Welcome to WC. It is cool that you are into the hobby at your age and hope you learn here. Find a cool Khaki Field, Orient, Seiko etc. Change the straps every now and then to make it feel new.

Don’t get caught up in the hype, there are a ton of great reasonably priced watches out there.

You must be doing pretty well to be able to spend 1 month salary on a watch. I think 3-6 months salary is standard for a wedding ring.

Welcome to WC and the hobby!

Don't feel pressure to get a 'luxury' watch just because social media tells you it should be what you aim for.

There is soooo much fun to be had in affordable and vintage!

Definitely no need to spend big. I own several high end pieces, but I've just looked through my collection and a couple of dozen were under £100 each, half a dozen under £30. On my wishlist I have another half dozen under £100. There are plenty of really nice and inexpensive pieces that will give you lots of enjoyment, and along the way you'll figure out what you really like for when you're ready to spend big money.

Welcome to the community, happy you’re here! One of my favorite pieces is $20 USD. As said before, there is plenty of fun to be had with affordable watches!

I don’t think US$6k (RM27.5k) is the average monthly salary in Malaysia. That aside, 14 is very young for a luxury watch. Your tastes will change and the lifestyle of a typical 14 year old will mean you can’t use the luxury watch all the time. If I were you, I’d just rock a Casio, Orient or seiko 5 and ask if you can use grandpa’s tag on fancier occasions. Use the US$1.5K to do some side hustle to earn more money. Set a target and when you hit that, you can go for a luxury watch you want.

Welcome. Your doing great you like watches. Follow a few simple suggestions I think most will agree with and you'll build a great collection. Buy what you like, buy what's in your price range, don't finance and don't worry about anyone else. It's your wrist and your smiles. Good luck.

RM1.5k can’t really get much in this day and age. My advice to you is to continue to save (min RM10k to give you options to choose from in the 2nd hand luxury market) and continue to be part of this community to expose yourself more to the hobby and learn more about your likes and dislikes. It’s tough to look and not buy, but the reward you get when you finally save enough and get what you want will be more rewarding.
