Seiko 4R34/NH34 movement freezing

Woke up this morning and the movement on my watch was frozen (Seiko SSK001). This is the second time its happened, only had my SSK since March. Watch was running well yesterday, and I put it crown up over night to help it lose a few seconds, and when I check it this morning it was stuck at 9:45 PM. Gave it a light shake and the second hand ticked for about 2 secs and then froze again. This happened a few months ago, so I put the watch away and came back to it about a month later and the problem magically disappeared until rearing its ugly head again. Anybody had this happen before? Extremely frustrating, I love the watch but am tired of this issue from an ostensibly “robust” movement. Bright side is I have several other watches that have needed some wrist time, but damn…………….

When this has happened recently to one of mine it was the result of two of the hands touching and impeding themselves. It is not a hard or expensive repair.

If it is the movement, well that is another matter.

First - if it is still under warranty, go that route to correct things. Second, while a movement may be robust, any debris inside a watch (hair, etc.) can easily interfere at the balance/pallet fork or further down the train of wheels.

I have pair of NH34. One runs pretty well, but other stuck every 10-20 min.

I shut them in the box for bad behavior 😜

Robust or not, movements are still made by human run machines, which means there will be a defect %.

As the watch head sustained any type of fall? I mean even a few inches into a hard surface?

This has also been my experience that stopped new watches are likely the result of misaligned hands. In either case, this should be addressed under warranty.
