VFW Presentation Engraving

Yet another cool find from ebay.

This Seiko was presented to Douglas P. Moore. Doug, as he was known, served as a Sergeant in the Army in WWII 22 Dec 1942-9 Dec 1945 in the 670th Army Engineers 308 Hq Topographical Co in Bismarck Archipelago, Northern Solomons, & Luzon earning Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, & Good Conduct Medal. Upon discharge he returned home to Indian Trail, N. C. where he began a 42 yr career with Duke Power (now Duke Energy). He was the 1st Full Time Draftsman in the Surveying Division and retired as the Supervisor of the Department. He was instrumental in the development of Indian Trail Memorial Post 2423 VFW & for 4 yrs in a row was named All-State Quarter-Master.

Been meaning to get a new battery for this to see if it is still working.

4 subdials? holy smokes!

Cool! Nobody in his family to pass it on to?

The 24 hour AM/PM, I mean sun/moon, subdial strikes again!

I'd be somewhat livid about the crookedness of the personalization. I guess clamping a round case back for what appears to be a stamping operation doesn't guarantee perfect alignment. Giving an American WWII veteran a Japanese watch is a bit unexpected.

He passed away in 1994, he had a daughter and 2 grandchildren according to the obituary I found but the only grandson who's name I could find passed away in 2015.

It almost seems to me like some of the years were added after the initial inscribing, maybe it was given to him and he retroactively had the other years added.

I actually hadn't thought about the WWII vet/japanese watch irony! Haha
