H Samuel's visit

We don't really have any decent watch shops here on the Isle of Wight,

I am after a Seiko Alpinist 1959 model and wanted to see one in the flesh, my local H Samuel's store got one in, sent across from Portsmouth for me to look at, I checked it out this morning but although the watch is impressive the lack of anyone to talk to in store with any knowledge or even remote interest in watches feels overwhelmingly apparent and off putting, No deal or discount could be offered just full price, so if I end up getting one it wont be from my local H Samuels,

Even online I could get at least 20% off without trying with a code! ,I was kind of hoping for a bit of interaction I guess and a haggle but nah.

Glad you got to look at it and try it on etc. I'm surprised that they've shot themselves in the foot by not even entertaining a discussion about a discount, to bridge their own online price...makes no commercial sense.

Quick update, I returned to H Samuels and spoke to someone a bit higher up in the chain and got another proper fiddle with the Seiko Alpinist SPB245J1 model, and a nicer talk to a lady called Rachel, during our chat obviously price was discussed and her best figure was £560, I disclosed that a code was readily available online bringing it down to £528,

This was the cheapest she would let me have it for but here's the crunch!...after handling the watch a 2nd time I did not like the screw-down crown action or feel of it, The whole assembly of the crown felt real cheep!, occasionally the hands would even turn whilst the crown was being screwed in!

I have handled many lower costing watches with screw-down crowns much much better than this, I felt it to be a week point on this watch with a thin stem, the worst I have known in a Seiko watch ever!,

Come on SEIKO!! I felt proper let down by this and angry with my self for wanting one,

Needless to say I am glad I did not take the plunge on this watch.
