Hi! I'm Skylar. I've been wearing a watch just about every day for the past 15 years or so. I'd always had a few Nixons, Fossils, Citizens and even a few Seikos lying around. But in 2021 is when I first started actually learning about watches and getting into the history and craftsmanship. That was when I got my first automatic watch, a Seiko SRPE05, and haven't looked back since.
I've been wearing watches consistently since high school. But in 2020 I got a Suunto watch for hiking and backpacking which eventually re-directed me into a love of mechanical watchmaking. Don't get me wrong, I loved it and it worked incredibly well for it's intended purpose, but it was massive and I found the smart features distracting. From that watch experience though I went back to basics and got my first automatic watch (a Seiko SRPE05) and have been hunting for that "next" watch ever since.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
I know there are some Timex and Casios from my earlier days, but the first watch I remember seeing and knowing I had to have was a Nixon Time Teller back in my early high school days. The old polyurethane/rubber ones.
