An unexpected find

Out of boredom yesterday I decided to visit a store in my area that some may or may not be familiar with depending on where you live (In the states).

For those who aren't familiar with this place, its basically a store full of old, broken, returned, incomplete sets & items from major stores in the area. Occasionally there's some actual good items here. But I wasn't expecting to find my most recent purchase. I hadn't been to this location in a while & in my absence its been "reorganized" with nicer products & less "junk" all over the floors & shelves. They even had a "premium items" section. I chuckled at the thought but strolled through that section just to see what they might be hiding. Lo & behold, I recognize a box tucked into the shelf:

"You gotta be kidding me" audibly left my mouth as I scooped up the box & began to open it. The size of the outer box hinted at "watch box". I expected to find an older, torn, pieces-missing example. To my surprise it had the warranty card, key, & all watch pillows intact. No dust, fading, tears, damage of any kind. Practically ran to the front counter to have the woman confirm the price: $110. Of course it left the store with me. Needless to say I'll be visiting this location more often for hidden treasures.

But it got me thinking, What watch related items have you guys & gals found in unexpected places?

I'm not familiar enough with Wolf products to know if you got a good deal or not, but if you say so, AWESOME! I've been in a Dirt Cheap once, and I can't say I was too impressed. 😂 My wife was looking for a flat, white sheet for a backdrop for something at work, and we struck out all over town. Didn't find one at Dirt Cheap either, but I did come across this gem:

$3.99 for a possibly used stick of deodorant, with no cap. 😂 HARD PASS!

Haha, the perfect picture to describe that store.

I saw the picture of the box.

I saw the picture of the Dirt Cheap.

I thought you were conned into buying a fake Wolf.

But it’s the real thing! Congrats on finding this gem 💪🏻

Major score!

I also like to go to those types of stores and browse.

My wife hates it because instead of buying something we actually need, I frequently buy things we MIGHT need or that I find cool.

I come by my watch addiction honestly.

That’s a hell of a find!! I’ve been seeing the Wolf Winders on the “About Fucking Time” podcast.. those dudes are awesome 😂

·

That is one fantastic find! I don’t have that kind of luck myself. Lol

The junk stores here in Toronto sell genuine junk but a friend who bought a business in my commercial neighbourhood discovered a cardboard box in his basement with a number of watch logo baseball caps, obviously produced in the PRC years ago, I paid him $25 for the lot and brought it to a mission that served the homeless, the needy or anybody on assistance. I used to spot the occasional Rolex, Omega cap on the street guys looking for change. Oddly, Breitling caps were on the heads of older ladies who sold homegrown produce in Chinatown but there was only 1 in the box that I paid for, had to be another source for the caps since I counted more than 1.

Awesome find!!! I’ve never seen or heard of this store but wish there was one around.

Oh that’s such a good find!! I love Wolf and use them extensively for my collection. I always wait to buy them on sale kinda like you did. I’ve never paid full retail price on a Wolf winder or watch box. The company holds a year end holiday sale where they take a substantial amount off the retail price. This is another great way to score a Wolf on a budget. I love it!!! Congratulations!!

Hell of a find 🔥

We have a locally famous store with a couple of locations, called Ax-Man. They sell totally random odd lots, with an emphasis on electronics parts and - for whatever reason - chemistry glassware (vials, beakers, etc.) ⚗️. One day I found a giant cardboard drum full of 18mm NATOs.

That’s great! I know Wolf makes some very cool and expensive winders and storage boxes (targeting really rich collectors) to securely store watches 👍 didn’t know they produce just normal watch boxes, but likely good quality find!
