I ... I can’t believe it ... I actually like ... a gold watch! 😱
I’m not a fan of gold on watches - or jewelry for that matter. I’ve always found polished gold to be too shiny and flashy for my tastes. Also, my mom & dad prefers gold-toned watches and gold jewelry, so gold has always been a “that’s what my parents like” thing. Antiqued/matte/satin/brushed gold when used as an accent I can enjoy, but polished, gleaming gold? Nope, not my style. I’m not my parents. Uh uh.
So imagine my horror when I saw the new 18K gold Tag Heuer Carrera Glassbox (Goldbox?). A gold watch that actually appealed. No! Say it isn’t so! I’m not becoming my dad! 😱 😭
Not that I’m in danger of buying this watch ... unless my salary tripled.
But seriously, this is such a cool watch. The golden panda dial is perhaps a bit much - I think opaline white with gold sundials would be nicer. I also think Tag missed an opportunity by not making the rotor out of gold and not gold PVD coating some of the movement pieces - say the column wheel. But otherwise, it’s pretty great.
Perhaps most relevant to most of us, though, is that Tag Heuer is proving the Glassbox concept to be a great platform. The Skipper has a very different feel compared to the standard blue version, despite the only difference being the color of a couple sundials and a 15 minute vs. 30 minute totalizer. The Porsche collab chronos are bigger and have a new movement and functionality. And now this one, showing a completely different, opulent side.
Not for me, but certainly for someone.
If divers wear dive watches, and pilots wear pilot watches, who wears tool watches? 😉
I Was the same...and now I love gold watches, and have 2. I have become my Dad... meh, I'm good with that. :)
This is a gold watch I would consider if I came into a bit of money! I like it!

I can't wear yellow gold or rose gold anything. Looks fake or cheap on me. Makes me feel like a fraud 😂. Only white gold or stainless steel.
Watch out! People will think it's a Rolex and mug you! JK. It caught my eye too. The price is too high for my blood, but it looks amazing.
I inquired about this piece at the NYC booutuquevand can't wait to try in on, I'm seriously comforting this one as I love my Glassbox in black it's a great watch. I wish it was in 5N red gold but maybe it's better in the metal.
