I am heading there with my wife around 1PM.

I agree with Lucas, watches are tools at the end of the day. For most enthusiasts, watches are a mixture of a tool and aesthetic jewelry. As technology progress, some "jewelry" will get more tools and some tools will get more aesthetic. Maybe that explains the popularity of the GMT function over the past couple of years.

The GMT was originally made for pilots and is probably the most popular complication for the pilot and traveler. However, look up "pilot's watch" and the primary difference is the style of the indices. Just recently, Garmin came out with smartwatches specifically made for pilots. The most recent is the Garmin D2 Mach 1. Nice titanium case and bracelet with a battery that will last up to 21 days (though just 24 hours with the moving map running constantly). As a tool watch enthusiast and active pilot, I had to buy it. This is after swearing off the Apple Watch because it will "never" replace my Breitling Aerospace. But the Mach 1's moving map GPS, barometric altimeter, oxygen level sensor, horizontal situation indicator, and my local airport's weather constantly showing on the watch face was too much to resist.

I wear the Garmin when I go to the gym, walk, and fly most of the time--though not all the time. The Garmin is co-existing with my other watches and I even bought my first automatic watches (Seiko SSK003 GMT and Islander Republic ISL-140) after I had the Garmin for almost a year.

In the end, the Garmin smartwatch just became part of my regular rotation. To me, that's probably the best possible outcome.

This would be my one-watch piece if I was ever forced to give everything else up. It's tough, thin, light, and has all the tools.

Nice. I have the quartz version. They are great looking watches.

As a tool watch guy, the GMT is my go-to function. I have seven watches with the GMT function and use it when traveling and flight planning and weather references. I got the ultimate tool watch for pilots but it’s a smartwatch from Garmin—the D2 Mach 1 so this is probably not the right forum. However, it has a ridiculous amount of features specifically for pilots and made out of titanium. I love that I can see the local airport METAR weather, GMT, elevation and step count all on the main face.

Still waiting for the call from the AD for my grail watch, the Rolex Batman with an Oyster bracelet but I have the following in addition to the Garmin:

  • Breitling Aerospace E7936210 (2nd time zone in digital)

  • Longines Conquest VHP GMT (can set local and 2nd zone using app and phone’s flash—easy for traveling)

  • Seiko SSK003 GMT

  • Islander Republic GMT ISL-140

  • Citizen Nighthawk GMT

  • Citizen PCAT (7 time zones)

The go to is the Breitling Aerospace and I see a lot of my pilot friends with it. The Seiko and the Islander are recent purchases and it’s a test to see if I can tolerate the reduced accuracy of an automatic. I always liked to be able to pick up a watch and have confidence it’s telling the right time, hence the many quartz watches (+2 quartz non-GMT Breitlings not mentioned).

That's beautiful. I've always liked the Night Mission series. The community keeps mentioning that titanium scratches easier but I disagree having multiple titanium and stainless steel watches. My steel watches have deep scratches taken out whereas the titanium really only has superficial scratches that can be buffed out with Scotch Brite in short order. No deep gouges after 13 years of wearing it.

Enjoy!

Did you ever pull the trigger on the Aerospace? I have one from 2010 (Ref E7936210) and it is still my all time favorite. Great tool watch for real-world usage.
