There are only two types of collectors....

  1. those that know their watches are basically jewelry and
  2. those that dont.

No need to discuss. Agreed. 😂

Some of my watches are jewelry, some are tools...

I work in an environment where I can't carry a phone, and don't always have access to a computer. When I wear a watch to work it's a tool, when I wear it out and about, it's jewelry.

I'm admittedly the former - I buy watches mainly based on my own view of the brand and the aesthetics of the model. Don't have any significant interest in tool watches/complications!

That said, I do really like the Doxa Sub 300T as well as a few chronographs.

Don't have piecrings, don't wear a  chain, don't have tats.  My watch and my shoes are all the decoration I have.

I see where you're coming from - I too often work in places that are phone free - but even then Im wearing something other than a $15 casio - which is all I would buy for one of my staff if they needed a 'tool'.  So still jewelry (unless you're watch is an FW91)

Or you need something with better, more consistent WR.

So then we are at 25usd for a W800.

Personally I can make a lot of arguments with myself that a Breitling Aerospace (for example) is a pure tool watch but ultimately here's my best test for a pure 'tool' - would I buy it for one of my staff to wear only at work, based only on what I need them to do at the lowest possible price. Anything else is jewelry.

(actually the cheap g-shocks is probably where I would really end up and funnily enough those are what we issue)

Well, you might be cheap, but the Canadian military buys Marathon GSARs for divers... As do other militaries around the world.

I agree that for most of us, most of the time, watches are jewelry.
