Not so long ago…

This is the 2009 Jules Audemars Self-winding Chronograph from Audemars Piquet. It’s 41mm of white gold, custard crème enamelled, applied Breguet numeral goodness.

AP got into its watchmaking stride in the 1930s. The watch pictured was their first automatic chronograph. Its design was based on a handful of chronograph references from that first decade.

AP has now retired the Jules Audemars line I believe, as it tries to realign and reduce dependency on the Royal Oak through the Code 11.59 line (easily the worst name in watchmaking history).

This watch has also been mothballed. It’s made way for dodgy collabs and watches with Spider-Man on the dial just as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is imploding. Well played, AP, well played.

Way above the other unappealing stuff mentioned, this is what I'd want from one of the holy trinity 😍

It was quite something to wander onto an AP forum some time ago. It was page after page after page of ROs. Imagine all those people spending north of US$30,000ish and all looking the same. I suppose clubbability plays its part but all I see is high-spend monotony.

I too far prefer this to most of what AP produces these days. Excellent watch, wear it well!

Love the JA line but I also like the Code 11.59😲. Hoping to add it in the near future.

You're the only other person that has ever mentioned this watch from my personal experience. This is the AP to get imho. I stumbled across it during my hunt for watches with breguet numerals.

There's also a white dialled version, but you have the one i want. It's a touch to yellow for my taste in pics, but it gives it a more vintage vibe. I have yet to find one in person and your picture looks like it's not too much of a yellow-ish hue. Beautiful watch!

How's the case thickness? I recall it was very barrel-like. Looked a bit chunky.

Seems like we have similar taste in Neo-vintage watches! Daniel Roth now this one.

Yes it’s a chunkster. Everything about it is vintage, but with 2000s dimensions to accommodate its automatic calibre. Proportions matter more than individual measurements though, and this one works. Tim Mosso’s review says it all.
