Tribus Watches Closed?

I received an email from Tribus this week saying Thanks for your custom and a picture of a spray painted wall with "The End".

Sad if they have closed down as I was looking forward to them furthering the initial designs.

Yeah looks that way. I kinda liked what they had going....RIP🥺

I'm not surprised sadly, they used polarizing marketing, and were priced rather ambitiously.

Website results say 'Empty' and then there's nothing, & I mean NOTHING, on the website.

·

Companies House (the UK Business Registry) indicates that are in administration and have filed for insolvency.

I imagine we will see Christopher Ward again.  He seems like a serial watch entrepreneur.

There can't honestly be any surprise in this...the prices for their watches were slashed by 70% fairly early on in their existence in order to get them to sell.

·

The 50% off sales on their whole lineup was not a good look. A fire sale doesn't inspire confidence. The first time they did it, I thought they weren't long for this world. Then the prices went back up to full price. But at that point, why would anyone spend full price for any of their watches? Then they did another fire sale. The writing was on the wall. No more warranty, I guess, though if you bought at half off, they still weren't a bad deal.

I told my friend about a Tribus having a 70 percent off close-out sale and he jumped on it. The watch I liked was a three-hander  I would have purchased one of their three-handers but the particular style of three-handers was the first to be sold out. I was able to check out my friend's watch and it is a solidly built watch with two subdials one on top of another on an ivory dial a classic-looking watch and it was under 500 bucks for a chronometer great deal.

I thought that but people on the Christopher Ward forum said this was a fairly regular thing for CW as well.

They are solidly built watches and COSC certified, on the one hand they weren't cheap but on the other, as mentioned, well built but certainly more expensive than many competitors; e.g. Farer & CW.
