Turned off a watch due to the buying exp?

So. I had such a crappy experience from a local AD buying the watch in the picture SSK001 that I haven’t been interested in wearing it since the first week I got it.

All it does is remind of the guy, and makes me bloody angry at how I was lied to and treated like an idiot by the AD.

I’m 100% going to sell the thing soon. But I’m wondering if anyone else has had this kind of reaction to a crappy experience. And am I overreacting?

I mean I really did want the watch at one point.

This is my first post on WC so if I’ve made any errors. Pls forgive. Thx for your replies.

What happened with the AD?

I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I generally don’t do business with them if I’ve been mistreated or end up returning the item.

What happened with the AD?

Purchased the watch from a local ADs website (they also have brick and mortar store) I mean I know the guy as I’d purchased from him once or twice before. This was in September 22 I want to say. the website said 2 weeks for delivery to my place.

So a month later I pop in asking after the watch and get the old “next week for sure” line. This went on for so long that in the end I just said screw it. When it shows up then so be it.

Life got busy and I kind of told myself well when it gets here it’ll be a bonus of soughts.

It ended up being early February I think when I happened to go thinking I’m going to lose it on the dude and of course that’s when he had just received the watch.

I likely should have just gotten a refund but he just kept stringing me along enough to keep the faith. I have my own company and always assume the best and think everyone treats their clients the way i do. WRONG.

Anyway. That’s about it. And haven’t put the watch on my wrist since the first week I got it in person.

·

Sorry to hear that cause the SSK is a great watch. Maybe years later it’ll return to you under better circumstances.

Correct.

Unfortunately I had previously returned a watch under warranty that needed a new movement (was losing hours per day) and I hate to say, but I was again given the runaround about how it had been sent in for 3-4 months

When I got it back nothing was different. Obviously not given in.

Gave it to another AD who very kindly offered to take care of it, and said that based on the serial numbers the watch was never sent in for the repairs.

Needless to say I was freakin fuming.

Thought it best to keep my distance from the individual unless I do something regrettable.

He is no longer in business I believe.

·

I say return the watch to your AD (assuming you get full refund) and purchase from someone/ somewhere else. If you wanted the watch, start with a clean slate.

Maybe yes.

But as I said I think the last time I wore It was ages ago. I think it was actually for a picture on this site.

I mean I’m in no rush to get the money back. Maybe my kids can inherit it in 20 years and it’ll be like unworn vintage of sorts. Hahaha

Well I think the AD is out of business now. Surprise.

I’ve been considering just consigning it with another dealer who’s been pretty damn empathetic to the situation and he can make something on it.

Either that or just keep it in the watch box unworn as a reminder to not be overly trusting and easily duped.

Well hopefully the guy is out of business. Sheesh. I think I’d be tempted to sell it if I didn’t like it especially if I had a way to move it without too much aggravation.

I’m hate you went through the delay in getting your watch!

I have a similar story but I found out it was NOT my ADs fault.

I always use one AD for any brands he is a dealer for which includes Seiko. Even if it takes a while I try to be patient and wait. One of those mutual respects. I’ll wait and buy from you and you give me deals.

I was wanting a seiko GMT and I had waited months!! I swung by another Seiko dealer one city over and they had a whole case of them!

He was so upset. Not at me, but at Seiko. He wasn’t sure why he couldn’t get that particular piece in but another dealer got a whole set of them.

Needless to say, he was cool with me getting it from another dealer and still hooked me up with other pieces later.

Not trying to justify, but maybe there was somethin out of his hands and it took him that amount of time to get.

All that said, let bygones be bygones and if you really like that piece you should keep it! Make some good memories with it!

You are not the only one and it happened to me with the Smiths Everest PRS-25.

That sounds like my situation and I would have been fine with the truth. Like just tell me you can’t get the piece amd that it might be a wait. It was a very popular watch at the time. I’m very loyal yams I would have waited. (Well I did wait right?)

But I kept getting told “it’s coming in next week” over and over again.

I would 100% have just preferred the truth if he was having a hard time getting the watch.

It’s that simple.

I'm a very kind and benevolent soul. Therefore, I'm always looking to adopt unwanted and unloved watches and give them a loving home.

Alternatively, My birthday is coming up in a couple of months. Let's create a new, better memory. The memory of you gifting me the watch for my birthday.

Still no?.... Just keep it in mind.

Haha. Well that’s an idea for sure.

Kind of a pay it fwd deal. I see you working there.

Happy future bday my friend.

Do you still have it? Like unfortunately when I go to put it on I just can’t. just makes me pissed off.

It’s funny. The gmt you’re wearing was the one I was going to get except in green.

But I opted for the ssk. It was new. Getting a lot of hype and the reviews were great plus it was quite a bit less expensive.

Here’s an idea. Let’s trade. Hahaha. Kidding.

Yes I do. I kept it but it's not my favorite watch to wear.

·

You're overthinking it. You liked the watch enough to wait so enjoy it - it's got bad memories because you've not worn it.

Don't let one bad experience ruin a good watch for you.

·

Your right.

This is why I posted this story. To get some outside, objective perspective.

Maybe it can come this weekend to the lake and start changing its vibe with me.

Cheers for the input mate.

·

For Seiko, there are plenty of ADs. YOU are the customer. Return it and go somewhere else.

·

This is also one of the reasons why I'm currently boycotting Seiko. Seiko used to be known for reliable and affordable. You can pick up Seiko from almost any watch store. Since they have raised their prices but didn't improve their movement or AD customer service. It really leave a bad taste for myself. For $1600 I can buy some well known microbrands like CW with good build quality and great customer service. My recommendation is go to a bigger jewelry store/AD for better customer service.

·

Watch the light bounce off the bezel, set the GMT to a location that brings back a nice memory for you and relax in the comfortable jubilee bracelet.

And as for the shitty AD, in the words of Mick and Keith from their classic tune ‘Sweet Virginia’:

“Got to scrape that shit right off your shoes.”

Keep it. Wear it. Enjoy it.

Time waits for no one. 😀

I suppose you’re right.

I enjoyed the smaller dealership experience as they are usually into watches more than I am and don’t treat as a 9-5 job.

But it’s probably safer going the bigger store route for sure. Thx for the reply mate.

Thx.

I do love that bezel it’s so subtle but when the light hits it at the right angle, wow, and I agree on the bracelet it’s very comfortable and for a not too expensive seiko it’s actually leaves most of my arm hair in place.

Thx fir the input. I think the majority of my replies have been similar.

Forget the asshole and move on with the watch.

So. I’ll give it another go starting this weekend.

Cheers

Oh. One more thing. I originally did buy the watch thinking I could have my home, Melbourne OZ, on the gmt hand on time, I live in Canada now.

It was a nice idea in my mind to be able to look down and know whos awake or not. It’s a big difference (18hrs).

So yes the gmt hand was going to have a specific use.

Thx.
