Demagnatisation

Should watch collectors own their own demagnatiser or should we just wait until its serviced.

My watch would have to probably loose/gain 5/10mins a day for me to take it to a watchmaker. Also I'm thinking that watches under 500 should be quartz. Am I really going to service my 70 dollar Seiko 5 or my 150 Sea-Gull chrono? That would not make much sense to pay 200 for the Seiko and probably 500 to service the sea-gull. So maybe I should buy a demagnetizer.

Do people's watches get magnetized?....and by what?

I've been rockin' mechanical watches for years, and although I have a demagnetizer I haven't had much use for it other than demagnetizing tools.

Agree with all but watches under 500 being quartz only.

I've had it happen.

Left on/near a cellphone for days at a time due to work.

Also other times that were less my fault lol.

I voted A because a demagnetizer is cheap and small. It's not an expense worth worrying about and it's small enough to throw in a drawer until you will need it and save yourself a trip to a watch shop.

and to answer @WATCHmole : Yes, they do get magnetized. Sometime it happens when they are shipped to you and sometime at home or at work. My MSAR and Max Bill got magnetized in transit from the sellers and I'm pretty sure I got another one magnetized by the KEF LS150 speaker that I use as part of my desktop HiFi setup.

Got one, never had to use it.

I believe that the Omega has a better magnetic shielding than most of my watches. But I'm not going to stop using my KEF just because of that.
