Art or Horology

I own two Nubeo watches and I love them. I've posted them on WRUW and each time they've only got the one like, thanks @Yonder This got me thinking, do watch collectors and enthusiasts see Nubeo as art and not horology. The Bethnic specs - PT27A1 Automatic Skeleton, 316L Stainless Steel, 46mm, AR Mineral Lens, 20 ATM - highlight the watches capability as a diver clearly making it horological. However, the aesthetics of the piece scream art. The Opportunity specs - NH38 Automatic, 316L Stainless Steel, 48mm, AR Sapphire, 30 ATM - like the Bethnic prove the watches capability as a diver and like the Bethnic the aesthetics scream art. So what is it, horology or art? My bias opinion says its both. A very capable dive watch and a very nice piece of art. What's your opinion?

I think they pretty cool

I think that they are a nice looking watch. I've never seen them before. Don't be discouraged about WRUW. Depending on when you post your pics can determine how many people see them. I try to look through the list and judge them but there are hundreds of watches. It's not easy to judge and see them all. Last night I literally was on WRUW for about 2 hours and I still didn't get through them all. I was trying to that's why I was on it so long. I have posted at times wearing the same watch as a couple of other people and they get judged and mine doesn't. It does make you wonder what's the matter with my watch? It's posted way down there is what's the matter.

I suspect you already know the answer to this one, George, but great idea, putting it out there for discussion.

I think a work of art is an expression of creativity and imagination, which is produced to evoke an emotion. Your watches may be manufactured by a mechanical process but they were the result of an artistic idea that was intended to provoke a reaction, even if that reaction is simply a question.. art or artisanal?

And the answer of course, is both. There is no reason why form should not come before function, and at the same time there is no reason why we can't enjoy both the beauty and the technical aspect of a creatively designed watch.

P.s I hope you get more than just my like, this time 😎

Wouldn't say just was discouraged, just wondered why some of my more basic, for want of better description, pieces get lots of attention but the nicer (aesthetically) don't. I get what your saying about spending hours, I've done the same.

100% agree. Getting likes isn't really the idea (love them as I do all my watches, that's why I've got so many I just can't part with them) it's nice but no essential. Just wondered why some of my tat gets likes, especially beaters, but no my nicer pieces.

I have the same problem. I "try" to at least go through the 100 some odd people I follow and never seem to react to them all. Let alone the 1000+ wruw posts. It's an impossible task. I honestly am happy to get 5-10 thumbs up and the occasional comment.

No reflection on your watches, but it seems to me that the world's galleries are full of tat masquerading as art 😎

This watch is so cool

I love my Bethnic! By the way if you look at the case back of The Bethnic you will notice the SAPPHIRE on the specs. So it is actually SAPPHIRE and was a mistake on the Nubeo site.

There are alot of haters saying "Not for Me!" and "Too Tacky!" Honestly I feel the same about the Tissot Moto line, but I at least respect that others love it so I don't like say anything negative.

It's no that tacky compared to some, it's very underrated imo.
