Hi Crunchers!
I got this bad boy after watching a Teddy Baldassarre video on YouTube.
I ended up getting a slightly different model then the one he reviewed because I liked how the dial on this one gives an old military / dive watch feel.
Vostok Amphibia
Ref: 120811
I of course modified it as well.
The bezel, case back, and strap (if you count that as a mod)
See images below โฌ๏ธ
This is how it looked factory:
Iโll end of saying that this watch makes for a really good first time mechanical watch to help you get your feet wet in dealing with one.
It also has a lot of parts available to customize for a modification.
I could have also done the dial, hands and crown if I wanted to but I am content with the changes for now.
Do you own a Vostok in any model?
Do you agree with my take on the brand?
Show us an image of your modified Vostok in the comments and lets have a discussion about it!
Happy Friday boys and girls!

I want one but I worry if the watch has lead in the metal, never know with the country of origin and all ๐ค

I canโt find a good awnser on it, I just heard rumors and have seen questionable pictures of them as they age. Definitely trying to find info on it.

Copy that.
Let me know if you do come up with this model specifically.
Iโll try and do some digging my self. Hopefully this one is safe ๐ฉ. Teddy B. out here trying to give me led poisoning ๐
Scuba man!!! Letโs go!!
The white dial looks like the same model as mine just differ color way. I actually like it in white, gives it a pop. How long have you had them IceCreamMan?

Love the lug shape on this very vintage
I bet
Itโs a nice watch brother. Enjoy it
Great post!
Love Vostok...
I own two Vostok Amphibia.
The first is a 420379 with a brilliant blue dial. At 39mm diameter it's the model with the smallest case and I moded it with a signed crown, a Seiko Pepsi bezel and a 18mm Barton bicolor silicone strap. It's a fun summer watch.
The second is a 710640 that looks less colorful with its dark grey dial. It's slightly larger at 41mm diameter It got moded with a signed crown, a Seiko Rally bezel, a scuba dude case back and a 22mm grey silicone strap. With its cushion case it wears remarkably like a mini-turtle, just much lighter on the wrist.
They both have their charm and advantages. On the plus side these are proven diver's watches priced like cheap sandwiches. They don't look anything like modern Swiss or Japanese watches and they features some truly unique engineering feats. Also, they both keep time remarkably well for watches with a movement that looks like it was cobbled together in a shed.
On the not so plus side, they are very thick, noisy, changing the date is still a pain, the finish is sometime abysmally bad and will require a file to smooth rough areas and corners, the lume is hilariously useless and the overly patriotic designs are not really welcome anymore.
Bottom line: Good cheap watches, but don't wear them in public if you think it might offend someone.
Mine's in the middle of transit. โบ
I can't help laughing whenever I see that dial. I have considered buying one of those to remind me that when I am having a bad day, somebody somewhere is having a worse day.
For those out there that do not know the story of Russia's only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, here is a vid that explains why I laugh:

Hello there!
Maybe some day... I searched for a new bezel and a crown as well a few years ago. I am concerned about the age factor on the brass. So I wanted stainless steel bezel and crown for swapping them.
Actually, I have got too many watches and no time for mods. We will see in the future if galvanic corrosion shows up.
Anyway I like your mod.๐
If you do find the time message me directly and show me how it came out.
I appreciate the praise on the mods I choose. Thank you
As long as you donโt eat it you should be fine
I should be safe.
No promises
Nice, I like the bezel.
Thank you brother. I tried
Pops off reasonably easily using a case back removal tool and then can press click on an alternative (again reasonably easily). Both require a bit of care and a bit of force but fairly relaxed about it given itโs a Vostok - wouldnโt want to be doing it with anything high end though!
Facts
Ohh I thought it might be a twisting motion. The one on my invicta has a release notch on it.
Hi!
I don't want to be missunderstood. My Vostok is perfectly fine for now. Sorry, English isn't my mother language.
I have seen some pictures of galvanic corrosion on some Vostok due to the brass on te original bezel and crown.
Wow..
This is a very cool picture and a very cool watch.

Thank you ๐๐พ Jordi.
I saw another collector with that combo on one of the WUS forums and I had to twin them. It's such a perfect bumble bee combination.
Wow..
This is a very cool picture and a very cool watch.
Thank you kind sir.
Nothing says โIronyโ like a Vostok on a NATO strap.
