Is anybody else bothered by the hand size on the new Squale Montauks?

I didn’t really catch this issue on the website pics prior to ordering, but now that I see the size of the minute hand right to the edge of the dial - I can’t unsee it. What is your opinion on this? Am I being overly picky?

Proportionally to each other, the hands work.

But to the dial size? No.

Both need to be about 1mm-1.5mm shorter than they are.

That’s what I was thinking as well. is this something you could overlook or  forgive or does it ruin the whole watch for you?

For how much that watch is & how much I usually spend per watch (not a lot), I don't think I could overlook it.

Edit: it's bugging me more & more & I've only laid eyes on it for under 15 minutes.

Dang, sorry you had to experience this with your purchase; personally, I don’t mind the hour hand, but I agree—the minute hand is too large for the dial. You are not wrong to be dissatisfied, and you’re not being picky.  I guess if returns weren’t an option and I had to cope with it, I would tell myself “The minute hand is specifically long to extend to the bezel markings for easy reading of the bezel when timing something”, but I probably couldn’t trick myself into believing that.

I almost can’t believe that nobody caught this before selling it. it seems so obvious of a mistake and really simple to fix. I understand that this generation of Montauk ditched the printed chapter ring of before, but the hands should’ve been modified. I even tried to find examples of other watches where the hand goes to the edge like this one and just ..can’t.

Are you going to reach out to the company?  I agree, this should‘ve been something that was noticed before produced.  I’m sure if you reach out they could offer some sort of assistance; like you said, I’ve never seen another watch with such an ill-sized minute hand before. Normally us watch geeks complain about too short of hands, this should’ve never left the company design table.

I might reach out , yes. According to the site I’m ineligible for a return since I’ve worn the watch, but asking never hurt anyone. Generally islandwatch has great customer service.

Gotcha, good luck. I hope it works out, maybe they could offer site credit or an exchange for a model of equal or lesser value.

It's past the index marks to which it's supposed to be pointing. This is a major design screw-up. Were there different sizes available, I'd think it was a assembly oopsie using wrong parts. But the file photo looks the same way!

·

That watch really needs a hand job.  Shorten it 3mm.

·

You could swap out the hand set.

·

I can see what your problem is. This would also freak me out.

·

Agreed and maybe why i see the watch often on pre owned sales forums ..

I know this a little old, but just watched this review video https://youtu.be/xlYJcqhSgKs from Long Island Watches, who this watch was made for. If you notice, he says he moved the minute markers from the chapter ring to the dial. I'm not an expert, but it looks like the minute hand is pointing to the chapter ring. Maybe some wires got crossed? Still a good looking watch imho.
