Journey to rebuild a discontinued Casio

TLDR: I put a working module from an old watch into a NOS case I found on eBay to restore a discontinued Casio model.

Lately I've been obsessed with ana-digi's, especially Casio. I fell in love with the SGW-500h and was super bummed when I realized the colorway I wanted was discontinued (of course). Well to my luck I found one on eBay. I bought and received it but my hopes were quickly dashed when I realized it was in heavily worn condition, even though the description stated that it was "in un-worn" condition. It arrived with a broken button and significant scratches across the case. I attempted to return it, got the refund, but never received a shipping label. After a month I gave up contacting the seller and just kept the watch. I'm sure he knew he was trying to sell a beat up, used watch. I later found a NOS (new old stock) case and buttons on eBay. It took 2 weeks to get from Israel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin but it finally came! I was able to swap the module and after a lot of handset adjustment it's fully functional and such a beauty! I share this story because this is the only place I know there are people that might be interested or even care at all about my random watch adventure.

I suspect that the more usual circumstances are scrounging a functioning module from gobs of acceptable looking dead watches. I find it odd that a new case was being sold alone. I guess they did a modification or something?

Way to get it done! Looks great! And I'm betting it'll have a higher level of personal gratification and connection to it when you wear it. Good job and Enjoy!

The eBay store was located in Israel of all places. Which is all the more impressive that I got it in 2 weeks seeing as they're currently at war.

But yeah they had a lot of other cases, maybe when casio discontinues a model they sell off old stock?

The case was actually in new condition so maybe a defective module that was never worn and they salvaged the case.

Respect! Nothing beats a successful project, if waiting on parts, tinkering and failure took some time before you finally succeeded. Wear it with pride!
