A rather interesting comparison...

I am not one for macro's or super fine detail analysis on my watches but its interesting to see.

I was BLOWN away by San Martin. They go with workhorse movements and put all the work possible in the case. Heck, the dials aren't too bad either.

Made me consider one as a daily when out with the dog

Yeah they seem like they really are putting in a lot of effort! Would love to see this over a larger sample size though. Say 10 Seiko 5's or something similar. That way you can see if the quality is consistent across their line.

That seems like oddly bad finishing on the Grand Seiko. I have a quartz model and it has very nice and clean transitions.

I have never seen one personally but they seem extraordinarily well made!

Something was off with that one ... He replied to my comment saying that it was indeed new! Not a refinished one sold off as new - he'd not lie but I'm sure he can't know with 100% certainty that he wasn't lied to. Either way. SM has incredibly moved up the ladder of homage watches and I am looking forward to their original designs.

That GS is odd. I looked at many with a loupe and never saw this. Regular Seiko and poor QC is to be expected.

It does seem weird. They are rather well made and this is the first one I have seen that seems only average.
