Reality vs Perception

We as humans all need a connection, someone to talk to, a family member or even a pet. And when you lose that you’re lost. This is a watch forum so what’s my point? The Laco in the photo I wear gets zero, none not one comment from folks at my local pub. But when I wear a $35 Vostok with a tank or submarine on the dial? Then everyone seems to want to connect and that is a good thing indeed.

You heard it here first, the pocket watch is about to make a huge resurgence. Why? The youth today lets everyone know they are cool and sport an Apple Watch and a pocket full of “empty.” But when someone pulls a watch out of their pocket that is something they’ve never seen the size of a hockey puck and tells time?

Type A pilot watches are about the most understated watches around, so it makes sense to me that your Laco receives “zero” comments, especially when compared to Vostoks, some of which have very unique case shapes and dial designs/colors.

I say this as someone who owns more than one Laco type A and more than one Vostok.

Gorgeous watch😍

One day i will get myself a laco pro. It's been on my list for a while this year.

·

Look at Marc and Sons, German brand that is on par with Laco with better movements.

I've mentioned before on here that I can go to work wearing my Seamaster Professional, or my Tudor Ranger, or whatever, and no one notices. Literally not even a glance. Then I'll wear my Casio Duro and I'll have three people specifically call it out during the work day.

Here's hoping this doesn't get subsumed into the new hipster movement. The old one's death is satisfying enough, no need to resurrect that monster.

·

I meant the hipster movement, of course. Do you know how hard it is to wear a skin diver on a leather strap (or god forbid, a denim strap) and not be labeled a hipster in the late 2000s/2010s?

Are you talking about this Marc and Sons?

Take a look around

Okay, their elegance collection is nice. 300m WR for a sports watch, nice!

Good for you. Trendy fashion-wise, rotten personalities most of the time.

As an introvert who loves watches I find WC a godsend. I think I'd be mortified to have anyone (especially anyone who knew what these things cost) comment on my watch in public. I think I gravitate to fairly simple, un-showy watches for this reason - the sunray blue dial of your Laco is beautiful but would be a tad outre for me. But this is exactly why we have a forum like this to share with like-minded people who will appreciate a real-deal flieger when they see one. Keep the pub for drinking and save the horology for us.

even better if it mechanical - then its huge, possibly noisy, you have to remember to wind it and it probably wont be very accurate. What the horological hobgoblin's hairbrush could be cooler than that ??? 😎

·

🤣 yeah, I wear my Seamaster 300 nearly every day and very rarely get a comment, yesterday I wore my Sturmanski Gagarin and got two folks compliment it.

That's my cheapest watch getting more positive feedback than my most treasured & expensive watch!!! 🤣🤣

The manager of my favourite pub is a watch guy, we have had some great conversations and have lent each other watches to try out. It’s a nice thing to have. I had an interesting chat with a guy wearing a Seiko Arnie a while back that was great too.

I briefly had a sub, that thing attracted negative attention. I had a chap pester me about cryptocurrency and starting a business with him, and another chap attempt to rob me. I guess it’s so recognizable/large/shiny that it crossed the rubicon
