Gold coloured watches

What's everyone's opinion on gold, or gold coated colour watches. As I rapidly expand my watch collection I got the urge to add one. Finally found this one for £80 and I quite like it. So thoughts on gold watches. This one is a Bulova, ref 98A197.

I just can't make myself to wear them. They always get me a vibe of "old gypsy dude". Not saying that they don't look good, it's just way too "bling bling" in my opinion.

Haha. I'm working up the courage to wear this one. As a jeans and T shirt guy not sure if I'll be able to pull it off.

Incredibly gauche! Equally so even at opposite ends of the scale, ie the $60 Bulova vs the Presidential Rolex, even the 222 makes my skin crawl a little.

·

I think they look great in a watch box but kind of gaudy on-wrist. Nothing wrong with the look, really, but I would expect a bit of extra attention.

Full gold is not really my style, a bracelet especially is a little too blingy for me. I do really like that PVD is an option, as it makes gold tone watches a lot more accessible.

But it's very important to look at a PVD gold in the metal as sometimes I think they can be a bit yellow, not the right tone, making it look "cheap" if that makes sense. The Bulova looks very nice though.

I had the same opinions of everyone's comments above, I refused to purchase/wear a gold watch. That is until I saw the Mido GMT in gold with black dial.

The trend is going back towards gold. Rolex (never stopped), Patek, GP, Tissot PRX, Citizen, Bulova, etc. It's all cyclical. Wear it with pride my friend and more importantly wear what you like.

Sono un mafiaso🤣😂

Great post.

Gold sport or tool watches don't make much sense to me. Real gold is better, of course.

Many people are not worthy, and they tend to know who they are. Callow youths generally don't deserve it.

Vintage, there’s a lot of gold fill or plate. Generally those are on leather though, a smaller size, which mutes the blingy-ness.

That’s probably how I’d wear a modern watch, whether it was real, plate or PVD. Forego the bracelet for a strap.

I actually always thought they looked pretty good, but didn’t think I’d ever wear one. But then I saw this from Malm.

And decided to give it a try. This’ll hopefully be coming in September so we’ll see what happens.

It’s good, when it’s small.

32-36mm gold/gold color watch is tasteful, everything else is just reserved for Tyson Fury and Nicolas Cage

Not a fan of gold plating. Solid gold is OK. Just something different about the luster, etc.

That being said, I do not own a gold watch, either on strap or bracelet but I do own several two tone watches and watches with gold accents.

Nothing against gold, except the price. 😉

I like the look of gold on a strap like this Raymond Weil. An all gold bracelet is a little flashy for my taste but this is all subjective
