A present

I bought this SSC911 as a present for my lifelong friend for his 40th birthday. The more I look at it, the more I'm falling in love with it. It looks really good.

As is customary with Seiko, the longer you look, the more small details you are able to appreciate, like the polished hands which are actually not flat, but slightly sloped. The chronograph action is surprisingly tactile, not as hard to press as some mechanical chronographs, but pleasant enough anyway. The 6'o'clock combined power reserve/chrono minutes indicator is great too. The crystal has a nice thick edge to it (is this considered boxed crystal?) and significant amount of blue AR has obviously been applied. The effectiveness of the AR seems to be the same as with my Alpinist, even though it has much darker blue tint to it.

The only thing that I immediately don't like about it, is the 24h indicator, which is pretty much useless.

At a first glance, I would say that this watch looks more expensive than my Alpinist.

Looks awesome, sadly 24hr subdials are a bug bare of mine. At least this has a date window so it is mildly helpful!

Agreed it does look awesome. Very nice looking watch which is very popular.

I think Seiko could have made it even better though with a number of design changes including getting rid of the 24hr sub dial and somehow making the sub dials black rather than purpleish etc. In fairness though just about any watch could be improved upon.
