Lorca GMT - Thoughts?

Lorca will be opening up their pre-order for their Model 1 GMT sometime later this year, but for near 2k and a new brand - I’m hoping someone here has some experience or insight on the company, movement, etc.

The design and watch has already won my heart, now trying to due diligence and try to win my head.

The first pre-ordered batch is scheduled for delivery in November, and they currently seem to be on schedule (I’m on the order list for a black dial model). So if you can wait a few months, you’ll probably see first-hand accounts pop up.

The people who handled prototypes were positively impressed. I’d prefer a true “flyer” GMT, but the “caller” movement (Soprod C125) is used by brands like Baltic, Serica, Lorier, Oak & Oscar and seems to be working just fine. (Serica apparently had some issues with a different Soprod movement, but those seem to be resolved and didn’t affect the GMTs?) My understanding is that Lorca uses the higher-accuracy spec of that movement and regulates it to chronometer standards.

This is the first (and probably only) time I’ve pre-ordered a watch from new brand. It’s a bit of an experiment and an exercise in trust.

Fantastic - thank you; I’m in a similar boat - I’ve never preordered but this one really has struck a heart chord.

Appreciate that information as well about the movement - looks like I’ll be riding shotgun on this trust-bus

We'll know in a few months! I don't own any microbrand watches (the youngest and smallest brand in my drawer might be Nomos, and they're dating back to 1990!). Rightly or wrongly, I sort-of think that a microbrand ought to either do something that's genuinely new (rather than a homage/inspired-by-X watch) or clearly punch above its price point with fit and finish. I like Oak & Oscar and Monta for those reasons, and probably a few others. Lorca seemed like a worthwhile gamble in that regard.

I was looking for a flyer GMT as well but the 36mm size is extremely enticing (I’m a midsize fan). My only gripe is the minute markers being so damn long, nearly the size of the hour markers. That was my only hold-up, but if I ever get lucky enough to see one in person I might just change my mind!
