I spent enough time in corporate to understand the rational behind wasting times on meetings:

  1. They serve the purpose of making it look as if something is done without wasting other resources in actually doing it.

  2. They serve to spread the blame in the unlikely case that something is done and it's only after everything goes pear shaped that the realization of why nothing was ever done about it sets in.

  3. You can't be tasked to do anything else while you are in a meeting, like being called to another meeting for example.
