Which dial is best?

Hello Chrunchers, I would be most grateful of your opinion and help.

Today I got back from the watchmakers two of my Record dirty dozens. I’m going to keep one and sell the other to help pay for the servicing and put a some towards the next purchase. So what I’d like to know which you would choose to buy as I want to put up the one for sale which is preferred on here.

The main difference as you can see is the dial. Both in reasonable condition, the one on the left has bigger numerals, slightly off white patina, a small amount of paint missing from 10 and 11, good train tracks and sub second dial with the Record signature also good. Lume pips standing out well, it’s been de-radiumed at some point, hands and dial. The dial also seems more original dirty dozen to me.

The one on the right has different sub seconds dial, the numerals are smaller and whiter, the lume pips darkened to the point they don’t really stand out. The Record signature not quite as sharp as the one on the left. I’m not sure if it’s the original dirty dozen dial or one which they changed to get rid of the radium lume. It’s not a numbered nato dial, but it does have the same sub seconds dial as the Nato dial which doesn’t have the track.

Both watches have original glass which is marked but not too bad, the case on the left is in slightly better shape than the case on the right, which has slightly more wear on the chrome on the edges.

So if you are still reading which would you choose or which do you think would sell more easily?

And if anyone knows anything about why the dials are different that would be incredible!

Thanks Crunchers

The two thing I noticed were the lume dots on the left watch. Same for the individual seconds marks on the seconds dial. I’ve only seen these missing on a dress type watch. I would say the left one is more “desirable” to me.

Thanks for taking the time to look and reply! Those are my thoughts too 👍

Yes I particularly like the number 9 on the right hand side one too. The one on the left, the sub seconds has a sunburst effect which doesn’t show up on the pictures. Also for some reason, a trick of the light probably, you can’t really see the second hand, but it’s actually a polished hand and can see much better then the pictures portray.

Price wise I have been looking, and i think I would advertise at 1500 pounds. There’s some that are more and some that are less expensive with inferior dials that look quite rough in comparison to mine. It’s always hard to gauge price, I’m not going to give them away but also want the buyer to feel get a good price and a genuine watch.
