On the bench Seiko Willard Finished

Finally finished off this Willard from 1975.

This one turned into a bit of a mission but finally got there after a few teething problems.

The original 6105 movement main plate was to badly worn to rebuild so went with the option of fitting a 6309 movement which was fully serviced and the case received all new gaskets, new crystal and the crown rebuilt which gives the Watch a passed water resistant test to 3bars.

The good thing about this movement swap it can be fully reversed to original in the future.

Next on the bench a UFO Speedmaster from 1976 which needs a new crystal, crown and stem and a new gasket set to tidy this one up.

Nice one 😍 Always pleased to see an old watch resurrected , especially one so cool 👍🏻

As you replaced the movement with non original, were you tempted to put in a modern Seiko movement , or not possible?

Reason I ask is I had a modern movement installed in a broken watch I had - for peace of mind and because it was cheaper ( much in this case as it was a long obsolete Swiss quartz so originality wasn't an option) - I can now wear it as a daily without worrying about fragility.

There's always lots of broken old Seiko's about, I presume modern movements won't fit?

Probably a stupid question & honestly not intended to offend the purists, I'm just curious.

I believe you may be able to fit a new NH36 movement with an aftermarket dial, hands and stem but using a 63xx or 61xx movement you can keep the original dial and hands intact. You can actually fit a Seiko quartz 754x movement to this case as well which would be a reliable daily beater. Regards Bruce

Thanks I’m happy with the end results. Yes the Speedmaster is next in line. Regards Bruce

Ah, I see why you'd stick to the older movements, I'd do the the same.

Thank you for your extensive answer, much appreciated 👍
