Automatics are convenient. But, something nicely extra engaging with a manual wound

Another weekend with the Weems. True to its vintage form, this 90's limited edition reissue also is powered by a manual wound movement. My Longines Weems Pilot Watch, ref. L2.606.4, is enjoyed today on a Haveston Canvas Corps Strap in Forecastle Grey. Maybe I'm obviously biased, but I give this👍👍! Note: I wish this had the blue contrast stitching the larger sizes of this same color has. Would have matched nicely with the thermal blues leaf hands. But, still looks good as it is here. The grey compliments the cream and silver sector dial and blue hands nicely.

Weems, like from Weems & Plath? If so, very cool (cool regardless)👌👌👌

I nearly picked one of these up, but was worried it'd be just a little too small and too similar to my Longines reissue of the 6B/159.

Its a very unique watch, and distinctly Longines. Wear it in good health 😀

No, I don't think so. I don't know what that is. Weems is a particular watch design from WW2. Named after Lieutenant Commander Philip Van Horn Weems of the U.S. Navy who designed it. Check this link to learn more.

It's small at 33mm by today's standards. But, I don't think too small for my 7" wrist. Additionally, I give these kind of watches a pass as I know this is what was made back in the 1930s-1940s (even though my example is a 1990s reissue, otherwise details and dimensions exactly to the original vintage) and acceptable within the context of its creation. It just takes a moment for my eyes to acclimate to the proportions and it starts to look fine and normal. Also, the key to making it wear and look better is the right strap. At 16mm, the strap should be a straight cut with no taper, otherwise it will really look too petite and even bordering on feminine.

That's the same Weems. Weems & Plath is a company that specializes in nautical/maritime navigation and timing tools. I once was a submarine Quartermaster and I had a bunch of cool goodies from Weems & Plath. despite being in the 21st century, we still ordered bronze clocks from Weems & Plath for each of the spaces on the boat.

Lovely watch. Pardon my ignorance but, what is the second crown for?

Lovely watch. Pardon my ignorance but, what is the second crown for?

The second crown is used to lock down the rotating "Second-Setting" bezel.

During the early years of WW2, most watches did not have ability to hack and stop the seconds hand. Bring that time synchronization is critical in navigation, to work around this technical issue, the user would alternatively reset the starting position of the seconds hand by setting to a known time signal.

In my photos, you can see I have reset the start of the seconds hand to about 15 second position. So, every time the second hand passes the 60 on the bezel, that will be the top of the minute. Make sense?

Quirky! Yes, it makes sense. Thanks!
