Alternatives to this Speedia-like?

I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these as the second watch in a two watch "collection". Teddy has these in stock at $540 right now and I think that's the cheapest AD price and love to support his work.

Before I do that I wanted to ask the brain trust here if there's a better alternative in this price range (or even just a touch more)? I like the 39mm but particularly the 45.5 lug width for my 6.25" wrist and the relatively thin solar quartz movement.

So what do you say? Is this the best "Speedia-like" one out there for my specs?

Thanks in advance.

The new Tissot pR516 is certainly worth a look. They offer both quartz and mechanical.

I would say go with the speed timer. I have that same one as well as the white dial. They are great. Only issue for me is the clasp with 2 microadjustments. But there are workarounds for that.

That's a great looking watch!

Yema rallygraf if you dig the vintage automotive look

I've looked at those and they're cool. Downside is that they are bigger and the style doesn't say "speedy" in the same way. Sound like I know what I've got to do.

orient panda, nivada chronoking, bulova lunar pilot

Go for it. It's a perfect size. The Bulova moon Pilot has some nicer heritage, I think, but the size might be a problem. I was thinking on buying this Seiko, or the moon pilot, but eventually I went for a Certina Precidrive. I believe Teddy Baldasare also sells Certina.

Seiko really nails it with the size on their chronographs & that's a fantastic one.👌

I'd go that route.

On a tight budget, the Pagani Design copy nails the Speedy look as well (& is excellent quality too).

Chrono and titanium. 42mm but I can't find a measurement for the height to know how it would work on a smaller wrist...but nice looking and light watch.

They're quite small 39mm as well. Since it's a meca-quartz the chrono buttons are crisp and the second hand flies back. However the speed timer 39 is a looker and solar quartz is hard to beat in terms of reliability

There are cheaper speedtimers at long island watch Store and in ebay.

I would say go for the speedtimer. I have a panda one that I bought from EBay. It’s nice but one of the cons that I have is that the register for time elapsed is too small so it is difficult for one to actually check how much time has elapsed once the chronograph function has commenced.

I have a similar wrist size and seems to fit my wrists quite proportionately.

I dont understand why the Bulova moon watch is not more popular, I think it is a lovely dial (not as busy) and , a fraction of the speedmaster AND, the speedy broke on the moon landing and so they used the Bulolva, ? so why doesnt it get more respect, just because speedmaster was literally the first?????

What are the work arounds? That’s the only thing stopping me

Unclestraps sells a clasp for about $12 that has a bit more micro adjust, and they also sell a half link that fits the bracelet. I only got the clasp because that got me what I needed.

Do you find the bracelet and head of the watch don’t match well?

·

Well I use the bracelet that comes on the watch and just replaced the clasp. Uncle does sell an entire bracelet, but I can’t say how well that matches. But the clasp looks just fine on the stock bracelet.

There are no workarounds. Either you can read it or you can’t. Depends on your eyesight. I own the SSC813. I bought the Strapcode jubilee bracelet. I like it as jewelry.

I only see the beads of rice bracelet, if you had the time could you link that bracelet?
