All this talk about San Francisco becoming a hell hole and people are still going to Union Square to drop tons of money on watches.
Writer choked, he had an opportunity to use this sentence:
One does not simply walk into an AD and buy a Patek 5980/1R-001.
What a missed opportunity.

Tl:dr version
Some guy wants a particular Patek, goes to AD in San Francisco.
AD says, we need purchase history, so guy buys other Pateks and jewelry. All the while the AD says it counts towards the actual Patek the guy wanted.
Plot twist, AD knew they were losing their Patek dealership and strung this guy along to the tune of $200+k.
