Out of its Element - A Grail Story
Growing up in the hood was tough for the kid. He always felt out of his element.
His neighborhood was plagued by drugs, violence, crime, and mental health issues. His tiny bedroom window overlooked the parking lot of a grimey bar and the sights and sounds that penetrated his room kept him up most nights.
Despite his parents' best efforts to shield him, he found himself navigating through the dangers of the streets. He watched friends and family succumb to drug abuse, crime, and suicide, but he refused to give in.
He had a vision of becoming a successful creative working with the biggest names in media. He was ridiculed for thinking he could make it but he relentlessly pursued his dreams in order to exceed the expectations projected onto him.
Now, at 37, he has a thriving career and a healthy family. As he glances at his wrist on this gloriously sunny day in Southern California, he appreciates the mild discomfort of owning a Rolex Explorer II, the "Polar" as its known by fellow watch enthusiasts. He can comfortably afford his Polar but it still seems out of place. The watch was designed for wealthy spelunkers exploring dark, icy caves, not for a nerdy kid from the hood with unrealistic dreams.
Nevertheless, he owns and wears it with pride, knowing that he has made it and still has much more to achieve.
