I’ve decided I absolutely need an Omega Constellation 168.017 either gold or silver. Want it in a brown strap but kinda want the original bracelet too. Do I buy the watch on a non original brown strap, or buy it with the original bracelet and just get a brown strap? Do I buy a polished one or go unpolished? Am I gonna sell it? I have no idea. Lookin for input from the vintage gang.

Buy on the bracelet. Finding the right one or one that matches condition is frustrating. A strap is a very easy thing to find layer. You can’t got wrong with gold or steel but definitely go unpolished. Nothing better than original bevels and finishing even if there’s a couple marks. Here are my gold and steel seamaster and constellation. Both unpolished and lovely.
@J.witkin is spot on. Vintage bracelets are hard to come by. Here's my Seamaster.
Gorgeous pieces from both of you guys. Thanks for the advice.
I had one on this weekend, was really pleased with the feeling of the bracelet. Reminded me of vintage Rolexes I have tried on.
Go gold, many came on pig skin straps back in the 40's and 50's. But a bracelet is great if you can find one.
They are gold caped not just plated if not full gold. So there is a decent amount of real gold in them. Great watches, buy the best example you can from the right seller. No imperative need of a metal bracelet on this type of vintage dresswatches for me.
I'll admit, 2 of my vintage Omega's are stainless, but I recently got a gold filled watch from 1960, and I really like the way it looks. Definitely do not go the polished route, especially if you get a gold filled watch. You will love it whatever you get.
Whichever one gets you the linen dial is the one to get
Love my 168.027 on a strap, but the vintage bracelets are costly and tricky to find with the right end links. I’d say bracelet all the way. Also be careful with polished examples. These cases have a lot of subtle yet sharp lines. I’ve handled polished examples, and I’d way rather have one that tells a story than one that’s soulless.

That’s a beaut. So the .027 came without a day-date? Is that a 564 movement?
Gold with Linnend dial and green strap 👌

Yep, cal. 564. The 168.029 is the day-date variant w/fluted bezel (if memory serves)

What a beautiful watch. You may have just started me on the hunt, Haha. I need to stop.
Love them and have a gold capped 168.017 and stainless 168.019. I agree with above - buy on the bracelet as they are great on them and can be hard to find. A lot of people have polished them badly so check those edges... should be nice and sharp! My pair attached...
Linen dial really is elite
Bought a stainless on OG bracelet recently serviced. I love this game. I love this community.
She’s here boys!
