What movement does Timex use?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what movements Timex uses for their manual wind mechanical watches?

They use Miyota for their autos.

@TimexBadger, any ideas, as the resident Timex guru?

Sure. The manual winding mechanicals are Chinese from Seagull watch manufacturing (I think) and, if I recall correctly, are a Seiko design.

Thanks. Timex doesn't mention which movements they use and I think that's because they know their average customer isn't a watch enthusiast. Even when they use a Miyota, that's only indicated by the photo of the movement itself. I've heard that with the hand-wind movements, the minute hands shifts several minutes when the crown is pushed back in after setting the time. That's in a few of the reviews at least. I wonder if those are lemons or if that's just the sloppiness of that movement. I guess I'd probably avoid the watch for that reason.

This is very true. I'm only speaking for myself, but I collect Timex for the memories of my youth and my Dad and Grandfather always wore the brand. If you want high-end movements and advanced horology you will not find it here. You can't expect the same quality you will find with luxury watches, but you can beat the crap out of them and they will still keep running. I found these two sites regarding vintage Timex.

The brand has some really interesting history. I only became aware of it recently. I actually didn't know it was an American brand.

They were pure Americana in the early days, but today they are made in the Philippines, Hong Kong, China, France, India and Switzerland and owned by a Dutch Holding Company. Not long ago, they tried to bring production back the U.S. with their American Documents series, but charging $495 for a Swiss made Quartz didn't work out.

Works for Marathon… I bet with the right marketing and select lines made in the US they could pull it off. For 95% of the rest they’d have to maintain the status quo.
